UTHSC Summer 2014 Application

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hey! I am applying for the accelerated bsn program at UT Health Science Center Houston that starts in the summer and had couple of questions. I didn't see any topics regarding that particular session (saw the Spring 2014 one) so I started this one.

So I have most of my prereqs for nursing but I still need to take my science prereqs during the upcoming fall semester. I had taken most of the prereqs (like english, psychology, etc) during high school, like dual credit, and now I just need my science classes and a few extra prereqs (like sociology).

The main question that I had about the application process was if I am eligible to apply just yet? I want to enter the summer term and will complete all my prereqs by Spring 2014. But the deadline is Dec 1 (if i'm right). Would I have to complete my science prereqs first? Or could I send in what I have and continually update them with my grades? I will complete all other requirements before the deadline (taking the HESI in October), but my grades won't be complete till after the deadline.

Thanks in advance for any help and i'm looking forward to other applicants for this session!

Thank you for the tips! I have a question for you. Did you have to request a transcript evaluation or is that done automatically? When checking My UTH I have a green dot so I figure they have everything they need. I have emailed them many times to get confirmation on these things. I still have "Official Transcript" on my To Do list but I have received an email from their admissions department stating they have received both of my transcripts. Any suggestions? Thanks![/quote']

Official transcript remained on my To Do list up until I was accepted. I was told that it would remain on my list until I complete all of my prereqs.

The transcript evaluations are sent automatically. They say they don't start mailing them out until after the deadline, but Megan and I both started sending our transcripts in a few months before the deadline, and we received about 4 evals each from June-November. Any time I would complete classes, I would send them an updated transcript and then email them about a week later to make sure they received it. It sounds like you're doing everything right. Good luck to you! :)

Hello everyone! I'm also applying to the BSN summer 2014 program. I have a BBA in International Business with a minor in Supply Chain Management. I'm finishing up my pre-req's, Chem & Microbiology, this semester and should finish with a 4.0 science GPA. For overall GPA, would they look at my GPA from my previous degree, or just the core classes that count towards my BSN? I took the HESI earlier this month and scored a 90% overall.

Hesi Breakdown:

Grammar:96

Vocab: 86

Reading Comprehension: 94

Math: 90

A&P: 84

Critical Thinking: 800

I wasn't too pleased with my CT score. I didn't really know how to study for that section. I'm applying for the Fall 2014 semester as well, just to be on the safe side, and will retake the HESI if I don't get in this round. I'm also applying to several other BSN programs, but UTHSC is my top choice. Good luck to you all!

Hi Julia_Ann, they only look at your pre-req GPA.

Thanks nkinjumpa!

Thanks Felicia! I'm glad to see that you made it in. I have been reading these blogs for a while now. I also think it's great that you continue to contribute to these blogs even after you have been accepted. Believe me, we appreciate all the advice you give!

Hey guys it's good to see a thread for the Summer 2014! I'm also applying to the summer program and in my last semester of pre-reqs with a 3.5 science GPA. I take my hesi this Friday and I'm extremely nervous but very well prepared. I have a couple of friends that applied to the spring start and one got in and the other wait listed, they both had good GPA's and hesi scores. I must admit it's very hard in knowing how they select their students when I've seen people with 4.0 getting denied, Very scary but we all need not put all our eggs in one basket. Good luck to everyone as I wish we all get accepted for the summer!

So how did the HESI go for you?

Has anyone completed a FAFSA for the summer semester? I have seen conflicting reports of which application year the FAFSA needs to be to cover the summer 2014 semester. Someone at the school told me to wait until January to complete the new 2014 - 2015 FAFSA for the summer semester start. Thoughts? Suggestions?

I too am applying to the Summer 2014 semester. I applied for Spring 2014 but was denied.

I went to the info session in August and was informed to not apply for financial aid until accepted into the program. I will probably go ahead and submit my FAFSA information since it is the government required application. You could always put your current school down instead of UTHSC. UTHSC can always retrieve the information later even though you didn't put them down as the receiving school.

It was very stressful waiting for a decision for the Spring semester. My stats aren't bad but they aren't exactly the best either. I highly suggest NOT trying to figure out their method of selection because you will go crazy trying. As mentioned by someone in a previous post, the people that were expected to get in didn't always get in and ones you least expect to make it, got in! It's crazy! A friend of mine applied at the same time as I did and she got wait listed. Our stats are almost identical. Just to give ya'll an idea...here's my stats:

HESI

Reading: 96

Grammar: 88

Vocab & Gen Knowledge: 86

English: 90

A&P: 80

Math: 92

Overall: 88

C.T.: 940

I currently have a 3.2 pre-requisite GPA with a 3.0 Science GPA. I am finishing up this semester with Chemistry, HIST 1302 and Stats. I think I'm going to get an A in History and hopefully and A in Chemistry and a B in Stats. I am currently a Registered Radiologic Technologist (AAS) and have been working in this field for 6 years. My friend is currently and LVN.

I know of several people that did not get in on their first try so, if you don't make it the first time, keep applying! Also, don't put all your eggs in one basket! Good luck to all of you!

Hi everyone! I applied for Spring 2014, but didn't get in so I'm applying again.

My stats were:

Math-98

Reading-94

Grammer-94

Vocab-90

Anatomy-92

CT- 900

Nursing GPA: 3.95

Science GPA: 4.00

Hopefully I'll get in this time around! :)

Best advice I can give... Don't compare your scores to other people because you'll just freak yourself out for nothing!

Does anyone know when they should start sending out acceptances? Or when we should know something by?

Round 2:

I applied for Spring 2014 and was kindly denied.

Here are my scores, but remember that numbers only go so far. Some folks on this forum and others might leave out that they applied a day late, had a criminal record, or outright aggrandized their situation. Don’t dwell on these forums. If you think your application can be improved - go out and do it. Seeking approval from anonymous hopefuls will only do so much.

My initial application had a few holes in it, well a bunch of holes really. First, I have an issue with my criminal record that will need approval from the Texas Board of Nursing via a Declaratory Order. Also, approximately 10 hours were not credited from my previous Bachelor's degree (Biology). I imagine this was due to my transcript of 155 credit hours that arrived on their doorstep 2 days before the deadline. They likely saw more-qualified students and skimmed over my transcript... I don't blame them. I also was enrolled in 4 pre-req's at the time and that is potentially risky if they were to accept me and I didn't complete the courses, thus forfeiting my spot and wasting their efforts. To date, I have completed all pre-req’s. I’m now waiting on a decision from the Board of Nursing.

Science GPA: 3.8125

Pre-req GPA: 3.8246

Bachelor of Science in Biology, 2010.

I believe 45 days-ish after the deadline emails and letters will be sent, or your uth.tmc.edu status will be updated. Felicia (o0fefe0o) received her acceptance around the 15th of October, September 1st being the deadline. Not 100% sure on the dates. I got my 1st transcript eval and denial letter simultaneously on November 7th... worst birthday present ever haha. So that's just over 2 months from the initial deadline. Those who were placed upon the wait-list were told that they could be accepted up until December 1st.

Yep I added it up and the first huge batch of acceptances went out exactly 90 days before the start of classes (January 13).

You guys will be starting May 19, so your acceptances should go out on February 18.
