Hey! I am applying for the accelerated bsn program at UT Health Science Center Houston that starts in the summer and had couple of questions. I didn't see any topics regarding that particular session (saw the Spring 2014 one) so I started this one.
So I have most of my prereqs for nursing but I still need to take my science prereqs during the upcoming fall semester. I had taken most of the prereqs (like english, psychology, etc) during high school, like dual credit, and now I just need my science classes and a few extra prereqs (like sociology).
The main question that I had about the application process was if I am eligible to apply just yet? I want to enter the summer term and will complete all my prereqs by Spring 2014. But the deadline is Dec 1 (if i'm right). Would I have to complete my science prereqs first? Or could I send in what I have and continually update them with my grades? I will complete all other requirements before the deadline (taking the HESI in October), but my grades won't be complete till after the deadline.
Thanks in advance for any help and i'm looking forward to other applicants for this session!
** I know it says 8 hours should be completed before you apply! But I was wondering if anyone had taken their 8 hours the semester that they were applying or if that were possible?

I hate to tell you this, but I believe that you must have the science prerequisites completed first; or at least 8 hours of them. This is off of the UTHSC website, "To be considered, you must complete at least 40 hours of the required 60 hours of prerequisite work by the program application deadline. 8 hours, of those 40 hours, must be from the science prerequisites of: Human Anatomy and Physiology , Microbiology, Chemistry. If you are admitted into the program ALL 60 hours of prerequisites must be completed by the start of the program." I hope this helps!
I am applying to the summer session BSN program at UTHSC Houston. I'd like to hear from others who are also applying.
I scored a 92 on the HESI with an 810 for CT. I know I could have done better but I'm not beating myself up about it. If you are applying for the summer BSN program, what are your stats? Let's get this thread going!

Hey guys it's good to see a thread for the Summer 2014! I'm also applying to the summer program and in my last semester of pre-reqs with a 3.5 science GPA. I take my hesi this Friday and I'm extremely nervous but very well prepared. I have a couple of friends that applied to the spring start and one got in and the other wait listed, they both had good GPA's and hesi scores. I must admit it's very hard in knowing how they select their students when I've seen people with 4.0 getting denied, Very scary but we all need not put all our eggs in one basket. Good luck to everyone as I wish we all get accepted for the summer!

^Don't be scare! Just take a deep breath and take your time. I scored 93 overall:
Grammar: 100
Vocab: 98
Math: 100
A&P: 80
Reading Comprehension: 88
Critical Thinking: 830
I don't quit know my GPA but are the science GPA only A&P, Microbiology, and Chemistry?

Hi everyone! I recently was accepted for the spring start at UTHSC. In regards to Robins question I think she was asking if you could still be completing your 8 hours of science prereqs when you apply. The answer is yes. As long as you finish the 8 hours by the deadline you're fine. I'll lay out my timeline. I was taking A&P 1 this spring (2013) and that was my first science I completed in May. Then I took microbiology for summer 1, which ended July 6. And then chemistry for summer 2 which ended August 12. And now I'm finishing up A&P 2. Our deadline to turn everything in for spring 2014 start was August 15. I took my hesi June 1st and finished up and submitted my application that day, without technically having finished my 8 hours of science. However, I was finished with my 8 hours (actually 12) by the time our deadline rolled around. So you can be finishing up classes when you apply as long as 8 hours of sciences are done by deadline, and 40 prereqs out of 60 are done. All must be complete by the time you start the program.
Hi meganelaine93, do you mind sharing your stats with us? I'm curious as to where I am and my chances of getting accepted. Also, are the Science GPA consist of only A&P 1&2, chemistry and micro?
Yes science GPA consists of A&P 1,2, chem and micro. And something important to remember. Even though they just need 8 hours for your application...if you've taken more by that time, or possibly all, they are weighing all of them as your science GPA...not just your highest 2 classes. By the deadline I had a 3.67 prereq and 3.67 science (I had taken 3 sciences and 1 was a B). My HESI was a 92 overall, my CT was 820. To be very honest I think I was accepted only because I attended/ am attending a university. Our group seems to have a wide variety. It seems like the people with lower GPAs (like me) all went to a university for most prereqs and science classes. The people that came from community colleges had higher GPAs, and we had a couple of really high GPAs that didn't get in or even get wait listed. I'm not trying to scare anyone, that has just been the trend for our application period and I believe going to a university definitely boosted my application.

I believe another thing to increase your chances of getting in is to really stay on top of your To-Do List and making sure that everything is correctly received by UT. I personally had some issues with Chemistry not showing up on my transcript evaluation and it took me a couple months of emails and phone calls to get everything straightened out. Some of the people with high GPA's that didn't get in for the Spring had issues with large amounts of credits not being counted. So don't be afraid to harass them
Good luck to you all! Maybe I'll see you around campus :)
Thank you for the tips! I have a question for you. Did you request a transcript evaluation or is that done automatically? When checking My UTH I have a green dot, so I figure they have everything they need. I have emailed them many times to get confirmation on these things. I still have "Official Transcript" on my To Do list but I have received an email from their admissions department stating they have received both of my transcripts. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Good luck to you today taking the HESI! Let us know how you do. Try to relax and avoid being too nervous!
