Hey guys, just wanted to begin a thread for all UT Health SON hopefuls who are applying for Spring 2016. I look forward to getting to know all of you as we begin to play what seems to be the longest waiting game ever! I am more than confident that each and every one of us will be receiving our acceptance letters around this same time next year:) Feel free to share anything regarding the application process and/or ask any questions that you may have!
Does anyone know the timeline to complete everything if you do get accepted? I was planning to take a trip back home for a couple weeks around Thanksgiving. If we do not find out until mid November I do not want to be out of town and not be able to get it all done. I have already had the immunizations from working in the medical field so that wouldn't be a factor.
Also, how does financial aid work? Would I need to be prepared to pay for the first semester?
I'm so excited to see that they are taking 120. I thought it was closer to 90.
man i hope so. i didn't do so well my first year and a half of college because i went right after high school graduation not knowing what i wanted to do with my life...it's this reason that i wish they had an interview portion! but i see how interviewing 800-1000 applicants a semester can be tedious...
anywhoooo, hopefully only another week or so before we start finding out!
WOW congrats missbrown at least you secured one spot in! Would you share your scores please? Unfortunately I put all my stacks in UTHSC, so its more stressful
So long story short, I am a CPA and have a double major in Accounting and Finance. I graduated Cum Laude from UHCL with a 3.8, but that only applies to UHCL. I started school pre-med before switching to business, and I started college at 17 and had a lot going on so wasn't focusing on my GPA then. Overall my GPA is 3.3, Nursing pre-reqs is 3.338, and science GPA is 3.5. I scored a 94 on the HESI, 870 CT, and an 87 on the TEAS.
I've been accepted into UTMB's Spring class.
I was also accepted into UTHSC's Accelerated BSN program back in 2010, but I wasn't able to attend bc some things came up between acceptance and the start of class. Back then they interviewed us, but they no longer have the Accelerated program. In fact, the class I was accepted into was the last class for the program. Apparently it had a very high drop out rate. It was a 12 month BSN program.
I'd say they definitely look at the candidate overall, and don't focus solely on GPA, although it is important.
Good luck, all!
This only makes me stress out more. I have a 3.93 gpa and made a 94 on my hesi. It will be discouraging if someone else makes if in with much lower stats and I'm rejected. I'm a single mom struggling to make ends meet. I NEED to make it into this program-and soon!
This waiting game is stressful beyond belief :/

I agree. I loved the atmosphere at UTMB and didn't feel like a statistic there. I felt like they got to know me and not just my grades. Grades don't always make the person. I am sure great nurses haven't interviewed well and 4.0 nurses haven't been the best either. I also got accepted to UTMB. For a while I was torn as I applied to multiple schools. I knew I would relocate closer regardless of acceptance. The more I visit Galveston The more I like it. Granted I am still interested in knowing the outcome to my other schools!! Good luck to all those still waiting for your favorite choices!
