UTHSC Nursing Spring 2016

Published

Hey guys, just wanted to begin a thread for all UT Health SON hopefuls who are applying for Spring 2016. I look forward to getting to know all of you as we begin to play what seems to be the longest waiting game ever! I am more than confident that each and every one of us will be receiving our acceptance letters around this same time next year:) Feel free to share anything regarding the application process and/or ask any questions that you may have!

HESI stats:

Math-100

A&P-98

Reading-86

Grammer-90

Vocab-90

Critical thinking- 920

GPA:

Overall- 3.85

Science- 4.0

I had no prior medical experience either!

As far as pharm goes, YES! I'm actually the current tutor for that class. It is a beast, but totally doable.

Our class had a wide range of stats, so don't be discouraged. Some people even got in with just the minimum scores!

@Courtney.C Thank you for the response.

I am worried about my CT score because for some reason when I was taking the test I did not think it was too important. I ended up getting a 750 on it, which is just passing. My GPA is a 3.7, science is 3.75, and over all HESI is 88.8.

Math- 92%

Reading- 90%

Vocab-92%

A&P-92%

Grammar- 78% :banghead:

I did the personality and learning sections because I saw them posted on other forums and I think that also contributed to my low CT score because time was running out.

You did really well! And you're still at the minimum for CT. Don't freak about it. I drove myself nuts comparing stats on this site.

I do feel like I'm going nuts sometimes just obsessing over all of this. I will try and focus on my school work and my job to not feel so stressed. And if they don't take me ill apply for summer. I also applied to TWU. Thank you so much for your advice @ Courtney.C ! Good luck to you!

Hey guys! I'm a senior at UT SON in Houston. If you guys have any questions about the program, feel free to ask. I was in your same, anxious, position this time last year. I completely understand the agony of the wait.

Hi Courtney!!! Thanks so much for offering us some advice! I, too, am super worried and stressed about my stats. I got a 92.8 overall on my HESI but my GPA is only a 3.3😕. That's really low, in comparison to other people applying. Do you know of any people that got accepted to the program with a GPA similar to mine?!

Also, what can you tell us about your first year in the program? What are the best and worst parts about it?

And, what is the best piece of advice you would go back and give yourself once you got accepted in the program, that you didn't know then but you know now?

Sorry so many questions. Thanks in advance☺️!

I know people that got accepted with a 3.0 and others that got denied with a 4.0. There really is no rhyme or reason to who/why they accept. They don't look at one individual component or another, more at the whole student.

As far as the first year goes, it's been a lot of material and I've learned so much! You get out of it, what you put into it. It's easy to get overwhelmed but I know it'll be rewarding in the end.

Hope this helps!

Hi Courtney. Because of the no rhyme or reason do you think it might be a lottery system they are using? Have you heard of that at UTH? Also , from what you have seen do you think they there are more students with previous degrees or is it pretty equal (no previous degrees & degree holders)? Just curious.

I think, as far as the previous degree goes, it's pretty equal. I don't think anyone will ever know what "system" is used. That's the magic question. We started getting waves of acceptances towards the end of October, and I applied for Spring 2015. Hopefully it'll be around the same time as it was for us. I know this is easier said than done (I'm a huge stressor outter), but just try to relax and keep your mind off of it for now. Before you know it, it'll be October.

I'm just curious, where did you guys do your undergrad studies at?

I ended up at 3 different colleges. I took dual credit classes during high school, and kind of continued to mooch off that community college for some of my classes. I went to 2 community colleges in Ft. Worth, Hill College and Tarrant County College. I also went to Texas State for a year, and was dual enrolled in community college while I was there.

I found this page, on the UT site, that talks about all the things they look at for admission consideration...
