UTHSC Houston - Summer 2016 Applicants

Published

Hey everyone!

I couldn't find a thread for Summer 2016 that was active so I'm starting one here! I am also an applicant for Fall 2016 but I'm applying for both because the deadlines are close and I really want to go here!!

So far I'm taking courses over the summer right now and going to finish my prerequisites this fall. I JUST finished the HESI exam today!!! Hope to hear from all of you soon

Hi! I'm a UT HSC Houston student. Just wrapped up my 3rd semester. If you all are talking about the BSN pacesetter program, no classes are online until your last semester in which you have all clinicals and one online course to prep you for the exit HESI

Hello! Could you tell us more about your experiences while applying to the program, and what the program is like now that you have 3 semesters under your belt! UT is my dream school (and I am sure a lot of others' on here as well), and any info/input/tips would me much appreciated!

Thanks so much for posting, and hope to hear from you soon! :D

Specializes in Operating Room.

Applying to the program was not difficult. I didn't have to do an essay or interview (I think at UTMB Galveston they do that). So I just submitted my transcript and that's really all I remember, sorry!! Once you get accepted there's a bit of chaos: lots of documents to get together, holds to fulfill, immunizations, titers and various pre-enrollment requirements. Definitely make yourself a list of all the requirements, put it up where you will see it everyday, and mark off items as you take care of them. Keep a big folder together with copies of everything! And originals if you have them (like acceptance letter, lab work, immunizations, all that good stuff). Don't be afraid to communicate with classmates, you're all in this together :) and you'll need to establish a good camaraderie to stay sane and on top of everything. It's really helpful to have classmates that are helpful, so be one to others as well! :) Hope this has helped a little!!! Good luck!

The only thing left on my to-do list is my Hesi scores. Hopefully they receive those soon. I would like to not have to worry about the application until the application period is over and they start admitting people.

@kkteagan Our scores are almost identical. I have a 96 overall on the HESI (can't remember the breakdown now except 100 in A&P and Math, 90's on the other sections), 3.9 GPA/4.0 Science GPA. I have applied for Spring 2016 but am going ahead and applying for the next semester just in case. Everyone has a pretty good GPA & HESI. It's intimidating! I am taking 2 pre-reqs in the fall and I will be core complete which will open a few more doors if I do not get accepted into UT.

Thanks so much! This was very helpful☺️

Anything you want to share about the program itself? What are your weeks like? What do you wish you would have known the moment you started it? Etc?

Thanks! 😊

Guess who has a complete application? EEEK! Now it's just a waiting game till that application period ends. Should I request a transcript evaluation?

@kktegan CONGRATS!! What a nice load off your shoulders! I think it's a good idea to request for one just to see that everything is set in their files, but that's your choice!

Can anyone tell me how in depth the AP section on the Hesi is? I decided to take AP in the Fall instead of the summer, so I am trying to schedule my Hesi when I am about halfway done with the class. I will also be applying to UTMB and TWU. Good luck to everyone applying:)

@ TROD1994

Once you get accepted, do they update you on all the requirements via email? The background check is only after you get accepted... right? Do hospital representatives come to the school to talk about their residency programs?

@J-Murse23

I don't remember it being as in depth as a textbook would be, but maybe general details for every subject? Like the important facts of every system I would say. Again it's not exactly on the brief descriptions, but it's also not too detailed....if that helps. I've also decided to apply to UTMB and TWU as well. Good luck to the both of us!:geek:

I agree with @veganbunny for the most part on the AP section on the HESI. However, I did have 2 or 3 very particular questions on mine that threw me off. They asked me which particular muscle "blank" was and gave me four choices (muscles) to pick from. The thing was, it wasn't large, easy to remember muscles, but smaller ones so that threw me way off. I had 2 or 3 of those questions on mine too! I bet those were the 3 I missed.

My friend took hers a week or so after I did, and she said she had NO muscle questions whatsoever but she did have a couple on another system.

Other than that, the questions were pretty general, but make sure you review every system. Hope this helps.

I felt like I had very specific questions. I had a lot of AP 2 material on mine and since I had just finished AP 2 it really helped out. I would have never done as well if I had just taken AP 1 at the time
