UTHSC-Houston Spring 2013

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hi,

I am new to allnurses.com and I wanted to start a topic for the Spring 2013 applicants at UTHSC Houston. Where we can keep each other posted on the process as it nears. I have yet to take the HESI but i wonder if anyone else has taken it and what their score was. I will compile my GPA's later and post them on here.

Thanks for your comments

So the application deadline for the summer accelerated program was December 1. I just got my fall semester grades, and all of my GPAs have gone up. I'm going to send them an updated transcript asap, but I was wondering if they will have these updated grades to go by when they go over the applications? Hmm... just thinking out loud. So now, my stats are as follows:

nursing prereqs - 3.83

science - 3.67

overall undergraduate (and I have a B.A.) - 3.76

Hesi of 95.4% and an 860 critical thinking.

If I can't get in, I'm going to take organic chemistry and just go to medical school! It seems like it's easier to get in to medical school than this nursing school!!! No, I wont do that... I don't want to be a doctor. I want to be a nurse. Sorry... anxiety is getting the best of me here! Probably a hangover from finals stress.....

Has anyone from the wait list heard back from the school?

I think you are good, but it is really hard to tell what they are looking for. There have been people on here who said they have a 4.0 GPA and did not get accepted... Just do well on the Hesi like kekebrwn and I think you should be fine. They said at the info session that they understand that not everyone will do well in all of their classes, but that shouldn't hurt you as long as you meet/exceed minimum requirements.

Thank you for the support. I've decided that I'm going to retake chem and hopefully replace my C with an A and bump my gpa to 3.7. Since I only have two weeks to study for the HESI I'm leanin towards pushing back my application until next spring.

I tried scheduling my HESI in January but the testing center said UTHSC-H will only let you test up to 12/31. I'm afraid that I'll ruin my last attempt because I rushed once again.

I'm also applying to TWU and Texas A&M- college station. I have over a month to prepare for my exams and feel that it might be best to wait and if I don't get accepted I will then apply for spring 2013 at UTHSC.

My Gpa was around that and I got a C in Chemistry. I would say as long as your other classes are fine don't worry too much about that. Just do well on the Hesi.

I'm pretty set on retaking Chem just in case I don't get accepted. Otherwise I'll be reapplying with the same stats. I might change my mind though because I need to save up and work while I'm in nursing school!!

Well good luck with that class. I applied to UT twice before I got in. Once for the accelerated bachelor's degree program and then to this program which I got in. I have a 3.06 science Gpa and 3.44 prerequisite Gpa. I also have two bachelor degrees and the second one I got this past May and was able to apply for this application period with it. I believe those helped but I also believe it was the grace of God. I prayed almost everyday to get in. I know that you will get in. Keep trying and keep the faith.

Hello Soon2bNurse2015, the readforthehesi PDF was very helpful. I recommend studying each section. For the vocab, I used quizlet.com to study and practice. Just type in hesi a2 and you will get a list of many vocab practices. Good luck

Try not to be so hard on yourself. I think with your stats you are fine! I've debated on retaking Chem because I like you... got a C! I debated on retaking the course, but It has been almost 10 years since I took that course at A&M and I don't think I'm going to retake it... My science GPA is 3.5 and once I finish Micro it will be higher, so I'm not going to stress myself over that one. I got a 92% overall on my HESI because I did not have A&P II when I took the exam and I got a 890 on Critical Thinking... I'm just going to go with it and pray to God I get accepted.

Good luck with the Texas A&M... I graduated from A&M and their admissions makes me nervous! They require so much more than UT! I know it is still a fairly new program, but they have a very tough admissions process and requirements. I'm sure you will do well and get in to one or the other! Have faith.

Did you make the waitlist the first time you applied?

We found out yesterday at orientation that our class is 173 ppl! Some ppl did not show up to orientation (which was mandatory) so Im assuming those of you who have been waitlisted may be getting calls for those spots pretty soon!!

I wonder when they will start notifying us? I hope theres 50 spots! Thanks for the update cynthiap101:)
