UTHSC-Houston Spring 2013

Published

Hi,

I am new to allnurses.com and I wanted to start a topic for the Spring 2013 applicants at UTHSC Houston. Where we can keep each other posted on the process as it nears. I have yet to take the HESI but i wonder if anyone else has taken it and what their score was. I will compile my GPA's later and post them on here.

Thanks for your comments

You guys rock!! Thank you all for the great tips on what to study for A&P and where to find stuff to study. I really appreciate it!! :)

I applied to TWU Dallas, UTMB, and here. I started to put all my eggs in one basket, but then I realize how competitive all these schools are, and my GPA isn't a 3.9+ like a lot of people applying...so I made back up plans :/ but I'm sure you'll get in, your scores are awesome!

This is the only application I'm not done with because of the HESI. I'm really nervous because I'm probably not going to get much time to study for it at all. I take it Friday and I'm drowned with school and work until Thursday! I'm really only worried about the CT and A&P...

Well, I hear the HESI is way easier than the TEAS. Your schedule sounds crazy though! I can definitely understand your dilemma. I left for Africa a couple weeks ago and only had a couple nights to study because I was afraid if I waited to take it when I got back, the school wouldn't get my scores in time. Now, however, I know that's not the case lol. I was sooo nervous though. A&P is pretty straightforward, I don't remember any crazy details being asked. With CT, I tried my hardest to put myself into a nurse's shoes. It's all I could do. I didn't have anything to study for that section.

Good luck!! :)

Thanks! I scored an 86 on the TEAS, but my weak points were A&P and Chem. I've been doing flashcard reviews for A&P, and I'm going to run by the bookstore real quick after class and pick up a prep book to try to get an idea of what I need to focus on when I get the time. Thanks for your help!! I'll let y'all know how I do! How long did your results take to see?

That's a good score, from what I've seen in other posts! Thankfully, UTHSC doesn't require Chem :) Definitely keep us posted and I'm going to be following this thread for quite awhile. I saw my results immediately after I finished each section. So before I clicked on the next one, I knew how I did on the previous one. They even let me write my results down on paper before I left. You can also choose which order you want to do each section. You'll do awesome!

Heyjude91, not sure when you are taking your hesi exam but I recommend this website called Readyforthehesi.com. The website is specifically geared towards a&p and everything you need to know. I studied and got a 92. Excellent materials, excellent people to help you with your questions. Good luck! Btw awesome score on the teas! I might have to take it soon.

I take it Friday :bluecry1: I looked at that website because I saw your post about it. I don't have time (obviously) to wait for the book to come in :/ I'm about to run to the bookstore and see if I can find something. I really just need to focus on the A&P and CT. I did see some flashcards online that I'm going over for A&P, but I want to see what's in the books too. Thanks, and awesome job on yours!!

Yes - so glad about chem not being on there! I will let y'all know!!!

@heyjude91- I take my HESI A2-Version 2 on Friday as well at 2:00pm. I have been freaking out about it because everyone has such high scores! I took version 1 and everything the girls are saying is true, it really is mainly API and you'd be surprised how easy some of the questions were. I had just finished API when I took my exam, I had no APII but I studied the heart, endocrine, and urinary systems briefly the morning before and made an 88.

Don't let your nerves get the best of you, definitely cancel out and talk yourself through each of the answer choices. Taking your time and sometimes going with your gut is the best option. BEST of luck to you!!

I will post how I did as soon as I know. A fall 2012 applicant told me she thought V2 was harder, wish me luck!!

Good luck to both of you!!! Very true, take your time and go with your gut!

@desjt3: if you're going to the info session on Wednesday, I think a lot of us are going to try and meet each other there...although I'm not sure how we'll find each other lol
