This thread is dedicated to the applicants of UT Houston's Spring 2012 application period. I've seen various threads posted throughout the discussion forum regarding the upcoming application period, but they are scattered and hard to keep track of. Maybe if we keep our discussion in one place it will be easier for us all to follow :)
I'm applying with the following stats:
Pre-req GPA: 3.21
Science GPA: 3.66
Overall GPA: 2.81
I know my chances of getting in aren't great with my overall GPA, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed anyway! Please post your stats, your thoughts, your experiences, ideas and opinions here:)
Good luck to everyone!!
I'm kind of in the same boat. I have a 3.7 pre-req, 4.0 science, and a prior bachelor's degree. I thought my chances were pretty good also but I haven't heard anything either. However, I did get in to UTMB, which was my 1st choice school, and I'm 90% sure that's where I will be going. Did you apply anywhere else?
I also applied to UTMB. I interviewed yesterday actually, and it seemed to go really well. I applied before June 15th (deadline) but I didn't take the TEAS V test until June 27th because there were no more times available before June 15th and I got permission from the dead of admissions. But now they told me in my interview yesterday that since I took the TEAS late, they put me at the bottom of the stack, and now it seems like all the slots for that school are full. So if I don't get into UTHSC I may have to wait around until the fall semester.
Maybe because it's Friday they're not doing anything? Just keep your head up everyone! :) Letters don't go out til the 15th, so there's plenty of time to still find out. I'm still undecided as of today....... Leaning more towards TWU after talking to a friend's sister who is a current UT student, but I still don't know. It's driving me nuts. This is the hardest decision I've ever had to make!!!
Oh, reason.. I'm going to India. Look me up on FB: [email protected] or Janna Rancifer. I love you guys, you're going to be awesome nurses.. Well I will too, just a little after you.I promise, I really had every intention of going to school, but my bf has caught a travel bug and has been saying things like "would you consider going later" and "are you really ready to finish?" We go backpacking a few months every year b/c he's a school nurse (south america and c. america mostly) but have yet to hit the other hemisphere... SO last nite over drinks the idea came up.
It seems crazy but, I'd rather go with him. Anyways, enough rambling, check me out on FB. I've got my travel pics and what not up.. LOL my parents are gonna wanna kill me, and that's how I know it's good.
AHHHH the travel bug! My brain is constantly battling that one too! I would be hard to pass up India for sure! I lived in Guam fr three and a half years and while there we went all over Asia and the Pacific islands. We haven't made it to India yet though. It is at the top of our list. Our plane right now is to go at some point after nursing school when I plan to volunteer as a nurse at a leper colony. Now that our kids are getting a little older we like to base our travels around doing some type of service. Have fun and enjoy every moment!!!!!! Do you SCUBA dive? If you do, The Maldives are just a short plane ride away from India, with some of the best diving imaginable!
Have fun! Thailand is great too! Pretty much anywhere in Asia is going to be an experience.

what did she say if you dont mind telling
@grace928 she wasn't very reassuring, honestly. She said that her TWU friends all have higher GPAs than anyone she knows at UT, and that TWU students with higher GPAs appear to get hired before UT students with lower GPAs, because that is a big factor (although a 4.0 is also apparently a turn-off). She said she feels like she's on her own most of the time, and it's sink or swim (she graduates in May), and that her TWU friends have a lot more opportunities for study groups and whatnot. She did say, however, that she loves the school regardless and she didn't apply anywhere else because she just wanted to go to the best in Texas. She said she's learning a lot, and her notes compared to those at TWU seem more intense and crammed.
I wanted to amend my statement about NCLEX pass rates. TWU's pass rate for the last quarter of 2010 (the most recent stats) are a 98.7% (150 out of 153 passed first try). Their overall for the year was 95.9% (352 out of 367 passed first try). UT does not provide their quarterly information, but their overall for the year is a 97 point something %, however, a much smaller number of people (155 out of 159). TWU's statistics, however, includes Dallas and Houston, so there is no way to know which one is better. That being said, the statistics were a lot more complicated than I thought. TWU is still ranked #64 while UT is ranked #21.
I could crunch numbers all day, though. What I am really interested in is what school I will be the happiest with. I know I will have no trouble getting a job from either. :)

I'm trying not to lose all hope either. My last name does start with a "T" but we shall see what happens. I'm surprised no one has seen any changes today. :/
