This thread is dedicated to the applicants of UT Houston's Spring 2012 application period. I've seen various threads posted throughout the discussion forum regarding the upcoming application period, but they are scattered and hard to keep track of. Maybe if we keep our discussion in one place it will be easier for us all to follow :)
I'm applying with the following stats:
Pre-req GPA: 3.21
Science GPA: 3.66
Overall GPA: 2.81
I know my chances of getting in aren't great with my overall GPA, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed anyway! Please post your stats, your thoughts, your experiences, ideas and opinions here:)
Why can't you take classes in the Spring & Summer and graduate in August?
I can graduate in August. I just wanted to walk in May, but now I have a NEW plan (evil laugh), lol
I need 24 hrs to graduate. So I was planning on taking 6hrs during the mini mester and the other 18 in the spring to be able to walk in May, but now I'm thinking I should try to stretch it out over the mini-mester, spring and summer so that I can do both (graduate in August and retake 15hrs of pre-req's).
Whatcha think? The pre-req's are History I and II, Phil, Federal Govt, and Psychology. I can probably sign up for some of those right now!!
I hope you're all starting to hear lots of good news! I have been AWOL for a while because things got crazy and all of a sudden I had 5 tests in 3 weeks! I haven't read any of the previous posts up to this point, so apologies if this is redundant, but I just wanted to offer a quick piece of advice: create a FB group as soon as you can. It's significantly easier to communicate, you can organize permanent "Docs" for reoccurring topics, and there will be tons of students who aren't on AN who will eventually be looking for a group for your class. After you create your group, send me a link via a private AN message (you'll get in trouble if you post the direct link on the thread) and I'll inform the current students. There are tons of us who are happy to share everything we know about financial aid, books, uniforms, registration, housing, transportation, etc.
You may want to consider naming your group "UTHSC SON Class of May 2013" - that's the format used by the previous 3 classes, and it will make it easier for current students to find your group.

Also, I don't want to burst anyone's bubble on fresh start, but the problem for me is that once I enact fresh start, it leaves me needing 10 hours before I can reapply to UTHSC, for which the next application deadline is January 15. So there's no way to do fresh start and get in for Fall, but I could do it by Spring 2013. So that's the plan if my mini mester classes don't get me in for Fall 2012.
@ Katybusymom, are you still taking classes at UTA only? If so, you might have a problem getting credit for the classes that you are repeating because of UTA's rules. I also need to check on this with them because I would rather take my English and History there as opposed to HCC if I go through with the fresh start! It's been difficult trying to talk with someone about my classes to begin with so I can only imagine how hard it will be trying to get ahold of someone to ask them about a fresh start! Where else are you applying? I know you applied to LSC, but anywhere else besides those two?

I wouldn't be using ANY of the classes that I am repeating towards graduation at UTA. I would have to take the 15hrs of pre-req's for UTHSC in addition to the 24hrs I need to graduate from UTA. I know, it sounds crazy.
I'm actually attending THREE different schools right now!! UTA, HCC and El Centro. I needed different classes, so I had to look everywhere to find them. Pharm and Patho were much much cheaper at El Centro than at UTA and will transfer there, even though they will not transfer to UTHSC. I was trying to cover my bases.
Spring, you can apply as Fresh Start and meet the Jan 15 deadline. You can finish your classes over the Spring and Summer semesters. You don't have to have completed ALL the prereqs before you apply.

@ rocket, I know, but the problem is I would need 10 more hours before Jan. 15 to meet the min. 40 hours to apply. I would have to retake 24 hours total.

I promise, I really had every intention of going to school, but my bf has caught a travel bug and has been saying things like "would you consider going later" and "are you really ready to finish?" We go backpacking a few months every year b/c he's a school nurse (south america and c. america mostly) but have yet to hit the other hemisphere... SO last nite over drinks the idea came up.
It seems crazy but, I'd rather go with him. Anyways, enough rambling, check me out on FB. I've got my travel pics and what not up.. LOL my parents are gonna wanna kill me, and that's how I know it's good.
