This thread is dedicated to the applicants of UT Houston's Spring 2012 application period. I've seen various threads posted throughout the discussion forum regarding the upcoming application period, but they are scattered and hard to keep track of. Maybe if we keep our discussion in one place it will be easier for us all to follow :)
I'm applying with the following stats:
Pre-req GPA: 3.21
Science GPA: 3.66
Overall GPA: 2.81
I know my chances of getting in aren't great with my overall GPA, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed anyway! Please post your stats, your thoughts, your experiences, ideas and opinions here:)
Good luck to everyone!!
Ok, I have two holds on my account, for CPR training and immunization records.....Am I supposed to get these taken care of before I can be accepted or before I start the program if I am accepted????
Background check?? The only background check I have been told about is one I am having to do for TAMUHSC....I havent heard about getting one done for UTH....
These holds are normal. Like Golden said, these are simply generic holds that they apply to everybody's account early. They'll be there whether you are accepted or denied, and have nothing to do with being accepted (aka don't need to be completed at this point in time).
The background check is something that it necessary to complete AFTER you have been admitted into the school and BEFORE you start classes. You would get more information about this in the acceptance letter I am assuming.
The only things that you need to have turned in at this point are the online application, transcripts from all institutions attended (showing degree received if you have finished your AA), your HESI test scores and your application fee, which was paid online through UTLink. Keep in mind that even if you turned in all prereqs completed on a transcript already, if you still have courses in progress listed, your UTLink may still say "not received." Verify with the school and on your list online there that the ones you sent are listed as received.
Later, once we're all accepted into the school, (right? ) you'll be required to send in immunization records for HepB (and I'd assume PPD), a completed background check, proof of completion of a CPR and AED certification and additional transcripts that show completion of all Prereqs and the minimum of 60 hrs.
This is all off the top of my head, so as always... anybody correct me if I'm missing anything. Hope this helps calm some of you down lol.
Also, has anybody started Hep B series? I have had the series many times over (was in the Army) but I don't have any of those records. I opted to go ahead and start it again because my employer offers it for free.
Seeing as how it's a 6 month series, it seems like we would need to have it started, but be able to get the 3rd shot after school starts?

I called this morning and was told that if I start now, I will have two done by the time school starts and that will be enough to be accepted.
Also, if you know you've had them done, you can just take the titer instead, which shows that you are immune to the virus. Since this option costs almost as much as taking all three shots though, you would only want to do it if your absolutely sure you got the shots.
Also for the record, unlike the student affairs office, I got through to the health department on first call and and they answered all my questions (number is on UTlink next to hold).
Good luck!

Good looking out.
Does anyone know the scheduling for the 2012 Spring Program? I mean will it include summer semesters or will it now be just Spring/Fall Spring/Fall? The reason I'm asking is because the Fed is no longer offering money for the summer semester and I definitely need the aid while in school.

you don't have to have the three shots in a 6-month series in order to be immune. the uth website states you can have the shot immunization record or a hep b titer. go for the titer if you've already had 3 shots and it'll show whether or not you have immunity.
i know this because i've had 5 or 6 non consecutive hep b shots overs the course of my life (blame my parents), i had a titer performed and i am immune.
@encephalon7, UTHSC runs through the summer. If you start in Spring 2012, then you will graduate in Spring 2013 (early May).
Can you please elaborate on your financial aid info? I depend on financial aid to get me through school as well, so any reduction of funds would definitely hurt me. Would we still get Pell Grants? What about Loans? You can post where you found the info if you would like instead of answering all of my questions. Thanks.
Yes. I remember some news about the change to Pell Grants and at Galveston College the FA advisers told me I would not be eligible for summer aid. Here's why:
"Because of the recent Congressional vote, students will not be able to receive two Pell Grant awards during any one particular school year, and will thus not be able to receive a Summer Pell Grant if they already received a full award during the previous spring, winter, or fall semesters. It is still possible to get a summer Pell Grant award, as long as the student didn’t exhaust their Pell Grant aid during the other semesters throughout the year."

They don't even start the background check process (or give you a form to fill out concerning it) until you are accepted.
Not that it hasn't occurred to me - hmm, maybe if I act like I'm accepted and send in such forms and a tuition payment, they will get confused and assume I'm admitted. I'm full of such schemes at the midnight hour.
