UTHSC Houston - Fall 2013

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Greetings!

I am applying to UTHSC Houston - Fall 2013. Anybody else?

I understand the deadline is Jan 15, 2013 for fall 2013 admission. I am reading that people are still finishing classes for Spring 2013. Classes can still be in progress after Jan 15th deadline? Transcripts can be submitted after the deadline? I am confused?!?!

I believe you need at least 40 out of 60 pre-req hours finish (8 must be from science pre-req courses) whenever you submit your application, and if you get accepted, all of the pre-req classes must be done by the first day of class. So yeah, people can still apply and be finishing the rest of their pre-reqs in the spring semester.

I kinda had the same problem but it won't take your transcripts off the to-do list unless you have completed grades on them.. i.e. if you had some fall 2012 grades that weren't posted yet, it won't disappear until you resend them a transcript with the complete grades on it and it doesn't matter if the class was a pre-req or not. Also important, they are not returning to their offices until Jan. 2, so there's no point in checking until then. The HESI scores get sent out on the last day of every month (or also every 2 weeks-I can't quite remember from the information session). What I specifically remember them saying is that if you took the test in December, they would get send the scores on the 31st from Evolve/Elsiver, but they wouldn't be removed from a to-do list until AT LEAST the 2nd because of winter break.

If that didn't answer your question, call the registrar's office when they come back in, and they should be able to answer your questions.

@frankcinq, you definitely need to retake (and quick) if you want a chance of getting in. They want a minimum of 75% in each section.

Hey guys!

I am wondering if anyone has the breakdown as to what UTHSC looks more towards beside critical thinking. I did score an 88 on reading but I noticed specifically on the report comprehension portion on the reading I scored a 66% (2/3 correct...go figure). Does anyone know if they are looking at specific parts of reading or overall score? I am not sure if I should try to retake the exam due to my reading session.

My HESI score:

Critical thinking: 900

A & P: 100%

Math: 90%

Reading: 88%

Grammer: 92%

Voc and general knowledge: 94%

What do you guys think? Should I retake it bc of my reading/comprehension score?

Correction: conclusion (reading) NOT comprehension (reading)

Thanks that really helped! Oh, I took mine at HBU in November, however. So I called in Elsevier Evolve like 3 weeks ago to pay for them to send it. Yeah, I suppose I'll check call in after the 2nd to check on my transcript to see if I need to resend a transcript or if my school sent the transcript after grades were posted.

From the applicant checklist on the website: "A minimum score of 75% is recommended on each section (math, reading comprehension, vocabulary/general knowledge, grammar, anatomy and physiology, critical thinking)"

So, I would assume you're fine since it doesn't state that they look into those more specific categories! Those are really good scores!!

Should I retake the HESI A2 if I made a 740 on critical thinking? (The rest made the minimum score required and I had a 89% total.) However, I would risk not turning in the most recent scores before the deadline..and I believe I would have to take all the sections again too. I'm having major anxiety about this. I have a pretty good GPA for my sciences and pre-reqs, but I'm worried about not making the recommended score on this will totally shoot my chances of getting in.

@smpieper: yeah, you're probably right but it's pretty much too late to retake it at this point :/. I'd have to retake it by Dec. 31st, which is Monday, in order for them to get it in time. And I'm only allowed one other try, so I have to treat that final try like gold. I have to make sure I do great. Worst case scenario, I'll have to apply for the following spring semester, which was what I had originally planned to do but figured I'd give it a shot in the Fall and see if I could start a semester earlier. I'll see what happens.

Reading into my report, reading comprehension was the only section that was broken down into subcategories. So it just worried me a bit if they looked into that. If that's what the checklist said I will not give it too much thought. Thanks smpieper! =)

So im taking the Hesi tomorrow! I am so nervous i wanted to ask what should i expect? I've been going over grammar, vocab, math, and A&P this whole week but i still feel like it wasnt enough ... I hope i do well tomorrow, yikes!

About 75% recommended on each section. I first called the admission office and the lady told me to retake the test (I had everything above 85% with an overall 88.4%, except for my vocabulary which is 74% (#&^#@&*^#*) ). So I just wanted to make sure, I emailed them again stating all my scores and how little my vocabulary score is off from the "recommended." A person named JoAnn replied back told me that I could apply but my HESI score "will not help your admission status." So I guess I should retake it. About how long does it take to submit the score, I wouldn't worried about that because I asked the lady at the testing center and she said the latest for the score to be submitted to the school should be by midnight of the day after the test day (unless the school only take in HESI score on the last day of the month then it would be bad). I'm retaking mine on the 8th. Hope everyone will do well on their application.
