Hello everyone! This thread is for everyone applying to the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. I believe they will be accepting applications from January 15-April 1, so the sooner the better! Their admission requirements are pretty standard:
Minimum Pre-Req Gpa: 2.75
Minimum Science Gpa: 3.0
Minimum HESI A2 score: 75% or higher on all required sections - math, reading comprehension, vocabulary/general knowledge, grammar, anatomy and physiology, critical thinking.
My info is really not that competitive, but I'm going to give it a shot anyways -
Pre-Req Gpa: 3.30
Science Gpa: 3.0 (Barely cutting it! )
Overall Gpa: 3.28
Hesi score: 93.3% overall, with my lowest score being a 90.
My gpa is not the best, but I still have 3 more classes to finish this semester, and I'm aiming for all A's! I think the best thing I have going for me is my HESI scores.
Anyone else planning on applying? What are your stats? Any questions? Lets hear them, and good luck to all who are applying!
I took my HESI this weekend!!! :yelclap: Whew, glad that's over with, now I can enjoy my Thanksgiving! Here's my updated stats now:
HESI:
Cumulative score: 93.27%
A&P: 92%
Math: 98%
English comp: 89.10%
CT: 890
Learning style: Kinesthetic/Global
Personality style: Creative/Leader
Over-all GPA: 3.7
Science GPA: 4.0
Everybody enjoy your Thanksgiving & count your blessings! :hrnsmlys:
Well I have submitted my application to UTHSC!! Now the waiting begins...... Yay!! My background check came back clean. There is no sign of my MIP from when I was 19. Thank goodness for small town mentality I am pretty sure that saved me from having a misdemeanor on my criminal records. So as it stands they should have everything on hand except for the classes I am currently taking and those that I will finish next semester. I sure hope that because I am taking a Pathophysiology class that it looks good to them. I need all the help I can get, but who knows since those that they have excepted where not necessarily the top 10% of the applicants. Keeping my fingers crossed, because I want to go here so BAD that I can taste it!! I don't care that the teachers are rough or that they push their students... That is the type of environment that I can flourish and excel in. Good luck to those that have applied. I know we all won't get in, but those they do take there is a reason for their acceptance. There will be no jealousy :)
For those that have already submitted their applications and gotten their UT link info, when did you get your emails with the password and username? I got my email saying that they have my application and I have already spoken to someone there to make sure that they have both my transcripts, which they do.
I created a thread asking my question before I saw this thread...what are the differences between TWU and UT Houston? I'm applying to both and (not saying I will ) but IF I get in to both, how do I choose? This may be a sill question but I'm really curious. Thanks for any info!

i'm sure those who were accepted is exactly the type of applicant they wanted for their program. each one of the applicants who were chosen for the program are well deserving in every way possible. everyone of the applicants who were admitted each bring something unique to the table and i don't really think you're in the position to judge that they aren't necessarily in the top 10% applicant pool.
greenfish - i don't appreciate you attacking me for a statement that i have read more than once on this site. for your information i was not intending to insult a single person who was accepted into the program. when i mentioned the top 10%, i meant that they don't take the top 10% gpa/hesi scores. please before you decide to attack my post, ask me what i meant by my comment. i happen to be very happy for everyone that has gotten into the program, and i wish them nothing but the best. i also wish every future applicant the best of luck for whatever semester they are applying to. i don't care if they get in over myself, ut knows the type of applicant that they are looking for. that is why i finished that paragraph with "good luck to those that have applied. i know that we all won't get in, but those they do take there is a reason for their acceptance. there will be no jealousy." i am just like all the other applicants who wished they knew what uthsc was looking for, because that is where i want to go.
god bless and happy thanksgiving to everybody :)
Oh ok cool. I'm glad you clarified your post. Nursing is a field composed of people who are dedicated individuals that work extremely hard. Nursing school is not as easy either thats why we all congregate here to learn from each other, not pass judgment, but thanks for your clarification. I've learned a great deal from posters and its totally a valuable tool to have.
Hello everyone!
I've been browsing this site for probably six months, and now that I finally found a forum for UTHSC fall 2012, I could not be happier (or more relieved to find others like me).
I work full time and have almost completed my pre-reqs with full time night classes. I take my HESI on Monday--wish me luck!! I've been studying basically nonstop for the last month and I feel pretty comfortable about all the sections except AP (I've been using my actual text book for that) and CT (haven't studied at all-heard you really couldn't).
My GPA right now is as follows:
Overall: 3.82
Science: 4.0
I know that looks good but I actually retook AP1 (made an A the second time). Does anyone think that will influence my chances of getting in? I know some schools frown upon retakes.
Any insight into the HESI would be GREATLY appreciated!
Again I am so glad I found this forum and I wish everyone the best of luck!
Hey guys! I have a quick question about the CT portion of the HESI. I purchased the Fundamentals Success book because I read that it helped people prepare for that portion of the test, but could someone please tell me what part or chapters of the book helped them? Thanks so much. Any help is greatly appreciated!! :-)
I took my HESI today!!! So glad it's over with!! Here are my scores:
overall: 91.9%
reading comprehension: 93.48
grammar: 100
vocab: 90
math: 96
a/p: 80
critical thinking: 840
Everyone keeps telling me that's a good score but I'm a little worried about the a/p section. I did some research on people who got into the upcoming spring semester and it turns out there are people who got in with scores like mine.
Now to finish the application and send my transcripts, then to wait. And wait. And wait.
@peche312-
I didn't study for the CT. I had heard that there was no real way to study for that portion so I just relied on my general knowledge. All of the 30 questions give you a patient, a scenario, and four possible answers for "first (or most important) thing a nurse should do." A few were to prioritize patients (who to see first). I hope this helps.

From reading the posts it looks like the CT portion of the HESI weighs heavily on getting in to UT. It makes since, because they did away with the interview process this can tell them a little bit about what kind of person you are and how you would respond to different situations.
