UTHSC-Houston Fall 2012 Applicants

Published

Hello everyone! This thread is for everyone applying to the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. I believe they will be accepting applications from January 15-April 1, so the sooner the better! Their admission requirements are pretty standard:

Minimum Pre-Req Gpa: 2.75

Minimum Science Gpa: 3.0

Minimum HESI A2 score: 75% or higher on all required sections - math, reading comprehension, vocabulary/general knowledge, grammar, anatomy and physiology, critical thinking.

My info is really not that competitive, but I'm going to give it a shot anyways -

Pre-Req Gpa: 3.30

Science Gpa: 3.0 (Barely cutting it! :crying2: )

Overall Gpa: 3.28

Hesi score: 93.3% overall, with my lowest score being a 90.

My gpa is not the best, but I still have 3 more classes to finish this semester, and I'm aiming for all A's! I think the best thing I have going for me is my HESI scores.

Anyone else planning on applying? What are your stats? Any questions? Lets hear them, and good luck to all who are applying!

I did call and she said to give them some more time. I will call again though. I prefer UTHSC so I have been following their updates closer. Thanks for the info. I work M-F 8-5 so it is difficult for me to get down to UTMB for a meeting.

Thanks ktdidit. I can't leave pm's yet. I guess I have to post a few more things? I am not sure how it works.

I'm not sure how it works either! I hope she can help you, she was a great help to me. Anything that can make this process less stressful is great!

To all the Fall 2012 Applicants, I know there has been a lot of talk about holds changing on UTLink, but I am not sure how things are going to work for this semester since we are now using the MyUTH portal. I was an applicant for the Spring semester and was all over that discussion board too. My GPA was not very high but my HESI scores were really good. I have applied again for Fall 2012 admission under the fresh start program. My GPA is really good now and I have all of my sciences completed now which will bode well for my Science GPA! Good Luck to all the applicants, hopefully we will hear something in March! :)

I am also starting the process of applying but looking into Texas A&M Health Science Center as well as UT( my family will kill me for it) but I need to get into one for a Nursing Officer Program in the Navy. Well anyway, since I am going to apply to both schools, does anyone know if I have to take the test twice? One for each school?

I just signed up to take the one for A&M through Evolve website and it seems like I might have to. Anyone run into this yet?

Jlopez96 - I believe you may contact ATI and request you have your scores submitted to another school. It may cost you like $20, maybe more... But that it still cheaper than taking the test twice. Also what semester are you looking to apply for? If your wanting to apply for the Fall, the deadline just passed for UTHSC. I'm not sure about A&M though.

@ jlopez96...You do not need to take the HESI more than one time. You have to contact Elsevier and have them email you a transcript request form. You have to complete that and email or fax it back of to them and call to make a $15.00 payment for each additional school. Now the biggest hurdle is making sure that the test that you are taking includes all the sections that you need. If you signed up for it using either Texas A&M or UTHSC's codes you will be fine as they bother require the Critical Thinking portion. The deadline for Fall 2012 Admission for UTHSC has passed. The deadline for Texas A&M is actually February 1st. You have to go through Nursing CAS and it takes a while to get all of that done. I doubt you have time to apply for that one this late, but you might want to contact them and check. Their program begins in July 2012. I wish you luck with everything! :)

Has anyone applied for financial aid yet? Do I need to wait until I file my taxes?

I filled out the FAFSA yesterday and there is a place where you do the "income estimator" if you have not done your taxes. Then after you sigh and send it reminds you to come back and fill out the correct income once you finish the taxes. I say get it done asap.

I was having the same concern about my transcripts because I just completed, in the Fall, some hours needed to get over the 40 required to apply by the Jan. 15th deadline and I was worried my school didn't get it to UT on time once my grades posted because it was still on my To-Do List.

I emailed ****** she is a Sr. Support Specialist and she told me the same thing they told you: that it is still showing on my To-Do list because they will need a final transcript by the start of Fall 2012 showing all my 60 hrs but it will not deter me from getting accepted as long as I had at least 40 hrs (8 hrs in sciences) before the Jan 15th deadline. Anytime I have had a concern or question, I have emailed her and she has answered me by the next day!

@ Amymit, I remember talking to you at the end of the Spring 2012 thread. Hence my user name "Spring hopeful". Needless to say it didn't work out for me either, but like you , I am back stronger! Glad to see you took your fresh start option. If I don't get in this time that will be my next step! But.....I have a good feeling! Maybe we'll be classmates! Did you apply to TWU as well?

To everyone else: Last semester we put together an ongoing post listing everyone's stats in one place. Let's do that again. I'll start, then you copy and paste into a new window and add your info! Good Luck Everyone!
