Hello everyone! This thread is for everyone applying to the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. I believe they will be accepting applications from January 15-April 1, so the sooner the better! Their admission requirements are pretty standard:
Minimum Pre-Req Gpa: 2.75
Minimum Science Gpa: 3.0
Minimum HESI A2 score: 75% or higher on all required sections - math, reading comprehension, vocabulary/general knowledge, grammar, anatomy and physiology, critical thinking.
My info is really not that competitive, but I'm going to give it a shot anyways -
Pre-Req Gpa: 3.30
Science Gpa: 3.0 (Barely cutting it! )
Overall Gpa: 3.28
Hesi score: 93.3% overall, with my lowest score being a 90.
My gpa is not the best, but I still have 3 more classes to finish this semester, and I'm aiming for all A's! I think the best thing I have going for me is my HESI scores.
Anyone else planning on applying? What are your stats? Any questions? Lets hear them, and good luck to all who are applying!

Just with the information I'm seeing with everyone else's HESI scores, I'm not gonna keep my hopes up on getting into UTHASC I think so far I have the lowest test scores. I want to attend this school so very badly, but I'm gonna think the worst and say that I won't get in...... This way if I don't the. I won't be heartbroken. Ive also applied to UTMB and from those I've talked to I have atleast a chance of getting the interview. I'm going to their info session on the 11th. I would love to attend UTHSC, but they have theirs in the middle of the week, and I would hate to miss class..... Gotta prioritize. I'll just have to see what is going on in my classes on the 23rd (i think) of Feb. I just know that is the day I have Organic Chem at 1, and I WON'T miss that class!! Why cant they have it on a Sat so more people can attend?? Oh well.
Hemphia, your gpa's are awesome and a HESI score of 88 is very good and the CT is awesome. Do underestimate a good CT score. I applied at UTMB as well and I thought the TEAS science portion was hard. I haven't taken chemistry in 15 years and when I was taking the TEAS I wanted to ask out loud "Is this a chemist test, omg...". I couldn't believe the chemistry they had on there. Only thing is I want to graduate earlier than May of 2014 and that is the only reason UTMB is my 2nd choice.
Apparently my CT score should be corrected. If I was on my computer and not my IPad I would fix it and repost all of it.... But I'm not. My score on the CT was 860, not 850.
Thanks you guys I know a good CT score means a lot, but it makes me sad to see my other scores VS everyone else's. I almost retook the test, bc I didn't study very well for the first time. But decided to see if I could get in with the scores I have.... I'm wishing I had, I know I would have done better than the 1st time
if I don't get into either program this time around I'll retake the HESI, and continue taking classes. I joke with my husband but if I cannot get into a BSN, im not gonna do an ADN program, I'll just keep going full time and transfer to a University so I can finish the pre-reqs to apply to Med school. I figure my final goal as a nurse is CRNA, and with all the necessary ICU experience and the additional schooling for the grad degree I could be finishing up medical school & probably residency as well. the pay would be about the same
and I could specialize In anesthesia as well......

Thanks for the update. I ended up calling them about 4 or 5 more times the next day and finally got a hold of someone else, also very helpful, who told me the same thing they told you, that my transcripts still being on my to-do list will not hinder my [hopeful] acceptance. I was just so nervous that the link was still telling me my application was incomplete, as I'm sure you were too.
Hemphia--
Your scores are not bad. Seriously. I made the same percent on the AP portion of the Hesi as you did, but I'm really trying not to give up completely. I did apply to a few other schools also, but like you, UTHSC is at the top of my list. I just like to hope my gpa and the fact that I work full time will lean their perception of me instead of that one little number.
What's important I think to remember is that what school we get accepted to is not near as important as the fact that we graduate. The goal is to become a nurse, THAT is what is important.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Would you mind sharing what your critical thinking score was if you could remember I know a lot of us get mixed information about what is accepted and what isn't and if you made it in maybe we can get an idea of where we stand? If not I understand because it sounds busy! and thank you again :)
Critical thinking has a heavy weight to your acceptance. My critical thinking was 880 I think (I'd have to look again. I had a 90.7 overall on the HESI (remember that you don't need to take all portions of the test... there's were only 8 sections out of 10 or 11 that we needed to complete... check that out on the website. My other stats were
Overall GPA 3.77
Sciences 4.0
Pre-reqs 3.65
I did have 7 yrs as an army medic before I applied and was an EMT. Just to give y'all an idea of what was average. There were people with 4.0 across the board that didn't get in because they didn't do so well on Critical thinking, but there's also people in my class that got low 700s.
On the reading and A+P portions I got right around 90 and 85 respectively. I can look up my exact scores sometime next weekend and let y'all know... I took the HESI July 2011 so it's a bit foggy, and we have our first Pharm test coming up Wednesday... EEK!

Don't give up. You have great stats.
