Hello everyone! This thread is for everyone applying to the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. I believe they will be accepting applications from January 15-April 1, so the sooner the better! Their admission requirements are pretty standard:
Minimum Pre-Req Gpa: 2.75
Minimum Science Gpa: 3.0
Minimum HESI A2 score: 75% or higher on all required sections - math, reading comprehension, vocabulary/general knowledge, grammar, anatomy and physiology, critical thinking.
My info is really not that competitive, but I'm going to give it a shot anyways -
Pre-Req Gpa: 3.30
Science Gpa: 3.0 (Barely cutting it! )
Overall Gpa: 3.28
Hesi score: 93.3% overall, with my lowest score being a 90.
My gpa is not the best, but I still have 3 more classes to finish this semester, and I'm aiming for all A's! I think the best thing I have going for me is my HESI scores.
Anyone else planning on applying? What are your stats? Any questions? Lets hear them, and good luck to all who are applying!
Good luck applying everyone! I'm a first semester Junior at UTHSC SON and we just started class this past Monday. WOW is it fast-paced.
Once you're admitted into the program, you'll have holds placed on your UTlink for things that you'll need to to before school starts, but that won't be until later on when they're getting ready to send out the acceptance letters (well after the application deadline date). Everybody starts off UTlink with I think 2?? holds on their account, but once you're officially accepted, and before your letters of acceptance are mailed, you'll see 3 or 4 more holds added to the list you already have. This means that they've updated your status to provisional acceptance. You should see that update on UTlink the next day also.
You're correct in that there are no interviews for UTHSC. They told us that some of the biggest things they looked at were GPAs, HESI reading score, and HESI critical thinking score.
I'm sure a few of us that just started here will try to stop in here to help y'all out, and I'm actually not even sure if I'm the first one. But we're slammed with homework and studying (aka been studying Patho today for 8 hours and only covered chapter 2). It's pretty intense. They say that getting accepted is probably the easiest thing you'll ever do here.
Just a hint... if you're still taking prereqs or have courses still in progress on the transcripts you send in, UTlink will most likely still say "transcripts not received." Just get with them and make sure that they have them. Look at the course analysis UTHSC sends you can check everything very carefully so that you're not caught at the last minute with a class that didn't transfer (happened to a few this semester unfortunately).
Just to give you an idea... for us, the app deadline was September 1st and they mailed out acceptances in mid November.
Good luck all! Hope to see you in the Fall.
P.S.
A really great way to get information that you're looking for in regards to the application and acceptance (hopefully!) process is all covered in our forum that we used. It would be a good idea to take some time to look over the application portion of our forum to iron out any questions or ambiguities that may be involved in this forum here.

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Would you mind sharing what your critical thinking score was if you could remember I know a lot of us get mixed information about what is accepted and what isn't and if you made it in maybe we can get an idea of where we stand? If not I understand because it sounds busy! and thank you again :)
I hope that the waiting goes by quickly for us. I took a heavy workload this semester with the intentions of trying to keep my mind off of the wait. Figured I would keep myself busy, and I sure hope it works. I'm also gonna start P90X tomorrow. Figure I might as well try to slim up for my last summer off. Gotta keep myself entertained. Anybody else trying to keep themselves busy???
I am and will be trying to keep myself as busy as possible! I finished all my pre-reqs in December so I have off until hopefully September! I have a little one that will start kindergarten in the Fall, so I want to really soak up these last months before we both start school. Other than that volunteering and exercise are high on my list!
Hemphia: I loved P90X ... except for Plyometric day, I couldn't walk without wincing for three days after that workout!

Hi there! I just called to the Registrar/Admissions office and was excited to speak to someone! Apparently, my HESI score was recorded with the Registrar on the 10th, but up until today, the system did not update -- so he did it while I was talking to him. Yippee!!! All done... whew! The phone number I called was: 713.500.3346
By the way, what are these famous "holds" that people keep mentioning? Is that something I should worry about? Pardon my ignorance! Thanks and good luck to everyone here!!!!
