UTHSC BSN Spring 2017

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello everyone, I wanted to create a forum for the UTHSC BSN Spring 2017 applicants. I plan to apply to this program, TWU, UTA, Lamar, and SHSU after I finish my pre-reqs this summer. Also, I still have to take the Hesi and Teas test this summer as well. I have attended three colleges throughout my college career and do not have the best GPA at either one of them. The school I am currently attending my stats are as follows:

Overall GPA: 2.5

Pre-Req GPA: 3.5

Science GPA: 4.0

I think you have to wait at least 30 or 60 days if you want to retake the HESI. I'm not positive on this but I think I read that previously. I took it in January a day before the application deadline on January 15th and didn't do so hot. I think it's on the Evolve website or maybe even UTH that states the waiting period. You could also call the Registrar's Office and ask, I'm sure they've been asked this plenty to know.

It's so weird. I read on the website that you can only take the hesi once during the application period, but I could have sworn that I read on a different part of the website that you can take the hesi twice! I guess I will just call tomorrow!

I just looked at the UTHSC website under the Pacesetter BSN and here is what I found. It doesn't say if there is a waiting period between tries.

When the UTHealth School of Nursing Department ID is added to your exam record for the first time, you must register for Version 1. If the exam is repeated, register for Version 2. The exam cannot be taken more than two times under the UTHealth code. If you score below the recommended score or fail to complete a section, you must retake the entire exam. The School of Nursing will not accept partial exams. The most recent submitted score is presented to faculty for review

: How many times can I retake the HESI?

A: You can retake the HESI one time under the UTHealth school code. The most recent score is used in the admissions evaluation.

Does anyone know if you are able to retake the HESI within a week apart from each other? I am trying to plan on when exactly to take the HESI before the deadline for UT. Please HELP!

You should check the other uthsc thread. There was someone in the same situation as you. I think UT closed their HESI registration period, but she took it under another school and had her scores sent to UT.

My to-do list has updated! Now all that is showing on it is my HCC transcript. But, if I understand correctly, that will stay on there since I am taking a class this upcoming semester.

Question for all: Do you have all your pre-req's complete? If not, what will you be taking this Fall semester?

I am taking Intro to Ethics (for my philosophy requirement), Introductory Chemistry (for a review) and Medical Terminology. I added in Med Terminology to help ease me into the "language" of nursing school since I do not work in the medical field at the moment.

I have completed all my pre-reqs but have been contemplating retaking classes to help my GPA, however most of them are full by this point at HCC. What does med terminology fall under for registering purposes? That sounds like a good idea .

@Nurse2bkd00 what did you find out about the HESI?

The medical terminology I'm enrolled for is under HPRS. I believe course number 1206. It is an online class the last 8 week session of fall.

Keep checking for openings in classes. I've seen a couple classes that were full now have openings due to drops

Thanks, looking up that class now. Good idea to keep checking classes, going to do that now as well.

Okay, another question for everyone while we wait....

Where did you take your pre-req's?

I have taken all of mine at community colleges. Most of them at HCC, but some many years ago at MCC(community college in Illinois).

After having all of my classes completed for the BSN of nursing, and a GPA of 3.85, it breaks my heart to realize I was so close to make it to nursing school. Unfortunately, I did not pass the Math section of the HESI, my overall score was 88% because the rest of the test I made it in the 90's. My A&P section was a 90, my critical thinking 950 and the rest was ranging between 92 to 98, but during the last section (the Math part) I made a 64 .

I was completely heartbroken!!! I ran out of time, and I had to guess the last 15 questions, I concentrated on the A&P and critical thinking part of the test, instead of Math. I learned the hard way, and I will try again next round of applications. But for now, I wish everyone the best! Good luck and stay strong!

Does anyone have the "hesi score required" on their todo list. I took mine about two days before the application deadline and its showing on my todo list that they still need the "hesi score". From what I read on the website, as long as I used the UThealth school code, then my scores would automatically be sent over to them right after I completed the hesi exam...

When I took mine at the end of June, it too until middle to end of July to update my HESI status on my todo list
