Hello friends!
I'm creating this as a communication board for new students/applicants to talk on about:
A quick intro-- My name is Maira and I've followed previous threads on here and I love how much information you can get from it! (I followed and read ALL of UTHSC Nursing Spring 2016)
I'm applying at UThealth for the nursing pacesetter program for Spring 2017. The application is due by Aug. 15 and I haven't submitted it yet because I haven't taken the HESI! I'm getting anxious about taking it, have any of y'all taken yours yet?!
Also, I've been meaning to stop by the school and see if my pre-reqs meet their requirements. I'm a bit confused on whether they will average 2 scores of the same class or not. For instance, a long time ago I took a English course and got a F (I was careless and young) and now I retook it and got a A. Another thing that I've been wondering about is what exactly the 5 hours of "electives" are-- will they accept a math class for it?
Well I look forward to meeting all of you!!!! Good luck!!!!
@Mary97 This is the only BSN program I'm applying to. I've applied to two ADN programs, but I've thought about it, and I'm only going to go the ADN route if UT denies me for Spring and Summer. Hopefully that won't be the case though!
I love how simple the application process is too, BUT that also means more people are more likely to apply lol so it can be seen positively or negatively.
Realistically we could be waiting until November, but hopefully we find out in October like the previous cohorts have. Either way it's going to be a LONG wait. I guess I'll pass the time by focusing on making A's in Micro and Chem in case I have to reapply for Summer 2017.
Hello Everyone! I am new to the forum and I just turned in my application LOL I'm literally freaking out!
My scores
GPA overall 3.5
Science GPA 3.75 (I'm taking chemistry now)
HESI overall 90%
-A&P 84%
-READING 86%
-GRAMMAR 88%
-VOCAB 96%
-MATH 98%
-CT 910
I wish the best for everyone that is applying!
AHawkins,
Good luck in your Chem and Micro classes this semester! I am approaching it the same way as you are: Do my best in the classes that I am taking just in case I have to apply for Summer/Fall.
I am taking Intro to Chem online this semester and so far, so good in it.
Now, Intro to Ethics....that is a whole other story....I feel so lost in it. I feel more comfortable in a science course that a philosophy course.
I called the admissions office and they confirmed that the received my updated transcript from Summer so my Stats course will count towards my GPA !!!
I hope that it makes my application stronger, since I am technically only missing Philosophy from my pre-req's.
I also asked them about a transcript evaluation, and they told me that they do not send those out, they said they only go out after you have been admitted, but I am confused on that, since I have read on here that some have received one.
Previous application cycles have posted about receiving them also.....
Oh well! The wait continues....
Hi all!
I applied to UT Nursing-Houston for the Spring 2017 admission and am hoping to be accepted. My GPA isn't so strong because I played a lot in my early years of college, but I've retaken a lot of classes so I hoping that influences my acceptance probability.
My stats are:
3.21 Overall GPA
3.23 Science GPA
Overall HESI: 88.67%
Reading & Comprehension: 96%
Grammar: 92%
Vocabulary: 94%
English: 94%
Biology: 80%
A&P: 80%
Math: 90%
Prayers to everyone who has applied. I hope we all get in. :)
@Jennmv Thanks! Good luck with your classes too! I wasn't excited to take Chem because I remember not liking it in high school, but so far, it's okay! I was so used to the fast paced 5 week summer courses that these regular semester classes seem very slow paced lol.
Last I spoke with admissions, she also told me the same thing- They don't send out transcript evals until after you are admitted, but according to everyone here, they send them out before :/ I don't know what to think honestly. I know a girl who received four transcript evals from the time she applied until the time she was accepted, and then I read about those who didn't receive any. Who knows...
Hello all :)
I am a bit confused about the prerequisite requirement for this school. I originally went to a NY State University where the pre-req were a lot less strict and you were able to chose what you could take to meet the requirements.
Now I am applying to UTHealth and finding out I'm stuck.
I have exactly 40 of the 60 prereqs done, and I have to fight for the extra 5 electives, this is because in NY there was no Government (6credit) requirement, nor was there Intro to Philosphy (3 credits) requirement. Because of financial difficulties I would not be able to complete these courses in the fall semester.
IF accepted, would they defer me until those three courses are complete or can they completed before graduation? A guidance counselor led me to believe the latter but now I am scared I won't be accepted. PVAMU has already spoken to me that all 60 credits must be completed before even entering the school and I couldn't do that. I feel so hopeless.
HESI: 89%
Science GPA: 3.5
Overall GPA: 3.7
Thank you so much if you could help me out
Hi everyone! Just took my HESI exam today! I am pretty dissapointed in my A&P section. I felt like the questions asked weren't in the book at all. All I have to say is I am super happy I knew all of the hormone questions for sure! Anyway -
Nursing GPA 3.5 Cum score - 85%
I'm not sure if it will be enough, but fingers crossed that it is!

Hey, Everyone!
I just finished applying (cutting it close to the deadline, I know). I am so excited!
Here are my stats:
Pre-req GPA: 4.0
Overall GPA: 3.93
Science GPA: 3.85
I had to retake my HESI because my scores the first time weren't what I wanted. SO! I retook the HESI last night!
These are my scores:
Anatomy& Physiology- 92
Grammar-86
Critical thinking-870
Vocab-86
Reading Comp-98
Math-94
My composite score was 92!
I am relying mostly on my GPA to get me in because I know my HESI scores are not the most competitive.
Good luck to everyone!
