Alas! Here I go again! This thread is dedicated to all hopefuls to either of the programs- AP or traditional. Let's partake in the sharing of ideas, suggestions, and/or insight in the "intricacies" of this nursing program. Former grads, new or current students are encouraged to chat. Knowledge is power, indeed! Continued blessings and success to all! Good Luck!
Tejas,
My advisor also mentioned to me that a 3.5 in Science is competitive for UTA BSN program. I'm getting ready to register for Pharmacology, Intro. Nursing, and Patho...Which classes do you recommend to take in Spring 2012 and Summer 2012? I would hate to be overwhelmed with classes that will be too much of a challenge. I'll appreciate your advice. Thanks!
@gracie2011...that's great info to know...thanks for sharing! I had heard that about the 700 applicants for the AP program from my advisor...not sure how I feel about that many??! :-/
I'm in the same boat as you as I didn't apply to any other schools for the spring start so I'm waiting to see what happens with UTA. Good luck!
@lgon62....I would not take pharm and patho together personally...separately seemed to work best for me but I do know several ppl on here that are taking them together and doing fine so maybe some other posters can jump in here and give you their opinion. I thought intro to nrsg was a fairly easy class so when I took it with patho (summer session 2011) that seemed to work well for me. I'm in pharm now and that class is requiring a lot of my time!! It's just so much info to process in such a short time....just something to think about! I hope any of this helps...you will do awesome!! Good luck!!
I also would not suggest taking Pharm and Patho at the same time. I took Pharm first and then Patho. I took some other courses with them as well. American Hist II (if you have to take it) is rough. I would rather have taken it on it's own. I am in Texas Politics now (POLI 2312?) and it isn't too bad. I also to Lifespan and tech writing while I was taking them. It wasn't too bad, but I was also working 50 hours a week, so I am stressed no matter what! :)
ARRRRGGGHHHHHHHH FML!!! I ended up with an 89 in Microbiology I am so heartbroken and upset! I actually did worse on the lab final!! I'm sorry, but 55 minutes for 50 questions and 30 minutes for 25 is just not enough and highly predicated towards a less than stellar outcome for students. I understand her goal of not wanting any cheating, but seriously??? 55 minutes for 50??? 30 for 25?? These are not simple questions!
Of course I ran out of time and I am positive I mis-answered some in my haste because there is such a stringent time requirement. It takes me a minute to even comprehend the question, much less have time to then go through the answers!! UUUUGHHHH....I hate my life....
I'm taking all 3 of those courses now. Patho is easy for me, but Pharm is harder. Personally, I wished I could have taken Patho and Pharm separately, but my schedule did not allow it. If I could have taken them separately, I would have taken Patho and Intro during the Spring, that way I could build a foundation on diseases . Then I would take Pharm during the summer, and then learn about the various medications to treat those diseases. I think Pharm would have been easier for me if I took Patho first, because I would know more about the diseases and therefore better understand how the medications work to treat them. Intro is easy, but it is a pain. Patho and Pharm are more important, so I always forget about the homework and end up doing it last minute. Plus, we have to attend various events (a club meeting, a uta fun event, a work shop, a community service event) on our own time. Its like a freshmen orientation class.
Hello all,
I took a moment away from this forum as I was getting so very discouraged. I took the Hesi exam today and scored an 87% but my science gpa is low 3.0, I think my overall is 3.4 but should go up after I complete American History II with an A. I am now about to start studying for the Teas V. I really wanted to get into UTA but that seems like a distant dream for me at this point. Although UTA's website says that extra consideration is given if you have a degree and taken a certain amount of hours at UTA, I am not sure that will help me. I still plan on applying to the program since nothing beats a failure but a try. I hope that TWU works out for me and I hope and pray that all you ladies get into the nursing school of your dreams!
Ms. Mila,
Good luck. I am in the same boat. I have a previous degree, and the correct number of credits, but my science GPA is not a 3.8 or above like they want. My overall since returning to school is great, but that doesn't help much. I never would have dreamed a B 15 years ago was going to kill my chances of getting into a school years later. Let me just say, a B 15 years ago is like an A+++ these days (I think - I went to the hardest state school where I live).
I don't remember my HESI or TEAS V scores, but good luck. I dislike standardized tests. I know I told the TEAS at a local Tech school and was in the 98th % for their school. What does that say about their applicant pool??!! I am retaking my core sciences so that I can apply to more places for August if I am not accepted to my #1 place and can find the financial aid to go with it. This making a decent living has hurt me. LOL
Keep us posted on what you decide.

I applied to the UTA program but I'm pretty sure I'm not going to get in. I guess they don't take grade replacements after you've applied which caused me to have a lower GPA. It's okay though because I got in to Texas A&M commerces pilot nursing program. Super exciting. Anyone who doesn't get in to the UTA program look in to the A&M program it's online except for labs and clinicals.I am still take pharmacology and patho at UTA though. Is anyone taking pharmacology? Does any want to start a study group? There is so much information in the modules to study that it's overwhelming.
I looked into this, but didn't see them on the Texas BON list as filling for initial accredation. I emailed for more information so thanks for sharing. I have a friend who decided to go to ITT in Richardson TX but that is over 50k for an ADN. They only look at your hesi score and not your GPA.
Ok I forgot who all on here has taken pharmacology at UTA online but can you tell me your thoughts were on the final??!! I've just taken test #2 and that was ok (scored lower than I thought I was going to so that was a surprise..haha...but still made a B) but trying to mentally get an idea of what the final will be like??! Feel free to PM me...thanks!

Tejas, I hope time flies also. I am getting anxious, especially since I don't have a back up plan.
One of the advisers talked to my Intro to Nursing class a few days ago. She said they will be mailing the letters the first week of November. For the spring, 700 people applied to the online program and 500 to the campus based program. Last fall, 600 applied for the campus based program. She said that traditionally less people apply for the spring programs compared to the fall. She also said that you need a 3.5 to be competitive.
