Hey y'all!
I'm about to start taking my prereqs this summer to meet the Jan 5, 2010 app deadline for the University of Texas at Arlington Second Degree Fast Track Program.
Anyone around about to do the same thing? or anyone in the area already in or about to start another program?

Wow, I didn't know UTA had a fast track program? I have to look into that. I'm also seeking a second degree.
They do! They don't advertise it. The catch is, you have to work at any one of the Texas Health Resource hospitals.. (Dallas Presby, Arlington Memorial, or Ft. Worth Harris).
You don't have to be employed by the time you apply, but only by the time you start the program.
Hmmm, so where can I find more information about it? I would definitely be interested. Do you know how the program is, etc? I'm assuming the prereqs are all the same as if you were applying to the regular program.
Where are you getting your CNA certification... I'm doing that as well...
Its actually the exact same 4 semester program as the traditional program. Except the semesters will include summers. Starts Summer '10, Fall '10, Spring '11, and graduate at the end of Summer '11.
Where as the traditional will start Fall '10 & Spring '11, then Fall '11, then graduate at the end of Spring '12.
FOR MORE INFO: contact UTA Nursing Dept http://www.uta.edu/nursing , order your OFFICIAL transcripts from your previous degree, and set an appointment with a NURSING advisor.
Before I called them, I didn't know they had a fast track program either until I asked. But they will sit down with you and create a degree plan and tell you which pre reqs you need.. I need ALOT.. but I'm going to do it this summer and fall.. at El Centro and Eastfield.
I'm getting my CNA at this place in Mesquite called Maria's Career Institute. It's a $475 - 3 1/2 week program with 3 days of clinicals. I have one more week of class before the clinicals. It's pretty inexpensive and comes with healthcare level CPR...
My plan is to use the CNA to get a Patient Care Tech job at ANY hospital, so that by the time next year rolls around, I will have plenty experience as a PCT to get a job at Texas Health Resource. Of course I will be trying to get a job there initially too.
Problem is, if any one portion of my plan falls apart (CNA, Hospital, THR).. then I'm sunk.. :) I don't want to wait another year to goto school, and I certainly don't want to attend school for two entire years.
Anything is possible if you are willing to put forth the effort! I know because I was there and am still taking a few prereqs. I'm taking 3 for UTA right now. I am applying for the fall 2009 but I think I need to contact my advisor! lol. Thanks for the info. I am also getting my CNA certification and hoping to work in the hospital to get as much patient care experience as I can. I only wish that I would have known what I wanted to do ... a few years ago!

Wow I had no idea that they had a fast track program! Either way I'm submitting my app by the June 1 deadline! cross my fingers I hope I get in! good luck Rmg5353. I am signing up for a CNA program its on the weekend since I am so busy with school. Quick question RMG5353 have you taken Concepts yet? and If so how are Mrs. ****** tests? I have a test coming up on the 25th and just wondering if I should focus on my notes, I didn't buy the book only the APA ones bc I heard we didn't need the book. Oh and where are you getting your CNA certification at? Thanks :)
Misspink, I am taking Concepts right now with Mrs. ******. I guess I got suckered into buying all of the books. I am getting my certification through Weatherford College, I should be done in May.... *sigh* good luck to you all applying... hopefully I will get in somewhere in the Fall.

i have been wanting to make an appointment with them for a long time, so now I am going to do it! I was looking at TWU, but am now opening my eyes to other schools. UTA seems like a great choice. just a little worried about the interview process, but I'm gonna take things one step at a time!
I just need transcripts? anything else? and advice?

Hey SMVTX,
I am signing up for the weekend CNA class @ northlake college in Irving its about 500.00 which is not bad. It starts 3/28, I'm signing up tomorrow! I've looked at other programs and they around 900 and the one they offer @ UTA is 1200-expensive!
