  1. can you please tell me what twu is like? what are the tests like? what are clinicals like? ok, as far as tests, thats kinda hard to describe. there is a trend in almost all classes though. they are really trying to prepare you for the nclex and use those type of questions where you have to apply what you learn. there are a few straightforward questions but for the most part, they are applying what you read and do in lab. clinicals at ben taub are nice because you keep busy. there is always something to do. my instructor described it as starting out at the tech level and slowly progressing up. for the most part, we do tech duties such as vitals, bed making, assisting patients, baths, ambulating, glucose monitoring, assisting the nurse, giving meds and injections (with the nurse present). its a nice experience to get acquainted with the hospital and how everything works.
  2. I really like TWU Houston. The instructors (for the most part) are very helpful and want to see the students succeed. The clinical sites vary, but most are in the Med center. I have my clinical site at Ben Taub. Our building is brand new, they only thing is that the studying space is limited. There are 4 study rooms and you can study in any empty classroom but there is no library. Overall, I am really happy with my instructors and it seems to be pretty well put together and organized. Let me know if you have any specific questions.
  3. I was looking on blackboard and I'm only showing patho listed. Under books he has listed the 4th ed... but on the paper that Dr. Ayers gave us it has the 3rd edition. Anyone know what edition we really need? Are there any others on the list that have a different edition? I was trying to order mine online.... Thanks for any info!
  4. Are there any other late comers on the board? We are supposed to be having an advisement session this next monday to register, etc. Did you guys buy your own scrubs? I think I am going to do that... I know of a place (Uniform Factory Outlet) that sells namebrand scrubs at a decent price (white top/ maroon bottom, right?) Then we have orientation on the 27th and 28th (I'm assuming thats for everyone)? Thanks guys! Can't wait for this semester.... its a combination of nervousness and anxiousness....
  5. Ok, i'm kinda freaking out. I was reading some posts ... and feel really out of the loop! have I missed a lot? Do you know how much the program costs? at least for the first year? What else we have to buy in addition to books and what are the books we need? how do i find that? I didn't see it on any posts. how many hours of clinicals/class we will be having? I figure that they will go over this during orientation but if it is aug. 27th or 28th that doesn't leave me much time. I haven't even registered (which we do at orientation?) AAAAHHHH! LOL. Thanks for any info!!!
  6. Nhoward, hows the fall schedule look? I still havent received my paperwork (I just found out yesterday). I'm not sure when our orientation is? Will we be having clinicals the first semester? Thanks!
  7. Hi Everyone, I just got offered a slot at the Houston campus and I took it! I will be living with my sister in Galveston. Does anyone know of any transit? or commuter train that runs between the two cities? or Is there anyone wanting to rideshare? I have looked online and can't really find much. I have found some articles about a Galveston Houston passenger rail but I don't believe its running right now? I am still waiting for paperwork, need to register, etc. I am so excited! I Really didn't want to move (I live in DFW) but I don't think I should pass up the opportunity! Thanks!!

Yeah, they have now added it as one of their FAQ's on their website. The test is $85. lol. http://www.twu.edu/nursing/bs_hesi.asp Yeah, I'm not too thrilled about having to take the test again. I know UTA doesn't require the sciences and TWU does... but, it would be great if we could just take the portion that we haven't taken.

just curious if anyone is applying to UTA and TWU. I have taken the HESI for UTA but when I asked if I can send those scores to UTA, they told me that I would have to retake it because of 'paperwork' issues. Just wondering if anyone else has run into the same problem.
  10. yeah, i know exactly where you are coming from. quick question, and i emailed an advisor about it but when i was looking on their website: http://www.twu.edu/nursing/bs_admission.asp and i read this: "admission to upper division nursing courses is based on consideration of multiple criteria. these criteria include the following: gpa for prerequisite coursework; admission assesssment test scores; grades received on first attempt for anatomy and physiology i and ii, microbiology, and statistics. consideration will be given to students who have completed 32 or more semester credit hours of the required non-nursing lower division courses at twu" i didn't know if this was something new and how it is affected if i retake courses? i'll keep you posted....
  11. Im retaking a History and possibly my A&P. I made B's but really need to boost my GPA.
  12. Goopsy, I received a letter last week and I didn't get in! Yeah, I'm really bummed. I am going to retake a few classes over the summer and reapply for spring. :) wish me luck. How about you? when are you applying? where?
  13. Polska, Me Too! I kinda knew my GPA wasn't high enough but I applied anyway hoping that my NET score would outweigh my GPA. I guess it just didn't cut it. Keeping my fingers crossed for UTA. I really like their program so far. They are really focused on helping students succeed (in my opinion).
  14. yes, i did interview at UTA. I'm so nervous. You know how you know what you want to say but sometimes it doesn't come out as planned.... yeah, there were a few questions that shouldn't have thrown me off but i wasn't expecting them.... We shall know by the end of the month.....
  15. mmrush, thats interesting considering at the info session they said that you do not need PE and speech to apply, just before you start classes.... so, theoretically you could take them over the summer. I'm wondering if they kicked my app out b/c i dont have those yet? do you know who you spoke with?
