UTA Fall 2013

Nursing Students Texas (UTA)

Published

I thought I would start a thread for those applying to UTA for Fall 2013; AP or on-campus. I will be applying to both and am hoping to find a job at a partnered hospital before the January 5, 2012 deadline.

I did not use profanity.... Why us my word ***** out? Hmmmm

Ha, when I used to moderate a mommy forum sometimes we would chose random words block just to freak people out.

I seem to remember people asking to sleep in vacant on call rooms at the hospital to save money.

@stash11 - I called *** and talked with her for almost an hour. The ranking process actually determines where you are placed in clinicals. That's why I got Brazosport. She did tell me that clinicals will be on Sat/Sun and test day is Thursday at 1pm for the cohort. However, Austin has a testing center so I will only have to travel for tests when we take our HESI exit exams each semester. Only downfall to that is that since I will be testing in Austin I will have to pay for my tests where if I were testing in Brazosport, I wouldn't have to pay anything.

Honestly... If you could find another person or 2 then it might be cheaper to rent a ******* apt! Geez.... Talk about nuts :(

I'm hoping that I won't be the only crazy individual making the drive - or at least someone else will be travelling if not travelling from Austin. I would be absolutely ok with going in on a hotel room with another student to cut costs, and even do homework and talk about clinical stuff together... The cohorts are 10 people each so I'm hoping that we can all form a bond/friendship as it is going to be a long 15 months.

I wish you all the best of luck!! When it comes to school you simply do what you have to in order to make it thru!

That is going to be expensive, though! Hotels 2 days/week for 16 months? It adds up! Not sure where other clinical locations are... I feel for ya. :(

The clinical locations are decided upon ranking points - my first choice was already full :( I'm really hoping someone else will be travelling as well and we can share a hotel room. The only other option that I have is to stay in Baytown, TX which is about an hour away and drive back and forth. I'm just not positive I want to spend all that time in a car or not

Two of my friends (nurses) used to work at Bayshore in Pasadena. They did not have good things to say about the facility.

I am from Austin too. I am going to do my clinical at Bayshore. So I am thinking of moving to Houston and rent apartment, if you are ok with moving to Houston(assume you don't have family you have to take care of), we can be roommates :)

Wow! You have to pay for testing? That sucks. So testing will take place at the facilities where we're having our clinicals?

Also, check next page, there's another student from Austin, maybe you both can share a place.

Good Luck!!

So is anyone thinking about buying/using an ipad for the required e-textbooks? The promo videos say almost any tablet or computer is compatible, but it seems to be designed for the ipad.

I am married, but my husband's grandparents live in Baytown. I am going to be going to Baytown on Wednesday mornings and coming back to Austin on Sunday evenings after clinicals. I'm going to try the travelling back and forth because I work for South Austin Medical Center right now and would like to keep my position so it is easier for me to slide into a nursing position after graduation. However, Pasedena isn't far from Baytown we can definitely meet up and be study buddies. If you want we can go down together for the orientation in August and half a hotel room since it is only one day.. Assuming you don't have your hotel by then.
