UT Tyler Fall 2014

Published

Hello everyone! I wanted to make a thread for those applying to UT Tyler's nursing program for the fall of 2014. If you have any insight on what is competitive, or any thoughts you would like to share.. please post! I'd like to hear from others applying! Thanks :)

I hope tomorrow is the day!!! @cdeaver I keep checking my email constantly!

I am so anxious. I hope its tomorrow ... then again if its bad news I don't want to hear it lol. But lets stay positive! Good Luck everybody!!!

Thanks! Good luck to you, too!

Did u anybody apply anywhere else? And is there a waiting list for those that didn't make the cut?

Yes there is a waiting list! Nope just UTT. Im not considered a freshman but I have taken about 75 hrs graduating in may with kinesiology so I hope that's somewhat taken into consideration.

@ladeeda77 congrats on graduation!! Since you're graduating soon why not apply to the accelerated program instead? It's only a year. But I think u will get accepted since u have taken many classes there. They take into consideration the freshman first and then the transfers. When I spoke to the advisor she said that it is possible for a utt freshman to get into the program with less points than a transfer. So u have a better shot than me! I hope today is the day!!!!!!!!! Anybody here from the dfw area?

She will actually graduate sooner if she gets accepted into the traditional program starting this fall. The ABSN application period is only once per year (around September). If accepted into the next ABSN class, her graduation date would be August 2016. If she gets into the traditional class staring this fall, she will graduate in May of 2016. I am currently in the ABSN program. I really like it. The students are generally older, although there are some who recently graduated from a University. The class is more mature for sure than what you will find in a traditional program.

@furelite oh! Ok thanks! In that case the traditional program is better for her. How many people do they accept for the accelerated program each year? I think the traditional accepts 90 out of 250-350 applicants each semester.

I think we had about 30 or so at the beginning of the spring semester. Seems I remember them telling me there were usually 70-90 applicants. What happens is you apply in September. If accepted, you then take Pharmacology, Nursing Concepts and Pathophysiology in the following spring semester(which is where I am now). If successful, in May the "official" program starts with the clinical type classes. So really, the program is more than 15 months, because you can't take the 3 classes listed before until and unless you are accepted, but you have to take them before the program officially starts in May. If you look at it that way, the program is 20 months. The big difference is that we don't take summers off.

And TeddyBear, I think your chances are excellent for getting in. I knew several people who applied to and got into the traditional program while they were working on their pre-reqs still over at the junior college. So they were transfers and didn't have the points you do.

Thanks guys I'm excited to graduate but I do hope this works out! Yes teddy bear I really don't think you have anything to worry about! I know transfers who got in with 80. & i will deff apply to the ASBN and spring if this go aroubd doesn't work out. I sure we find out tonight.

@furelite thank you for letting me know. Wow! 30! That's a small class! I hope I have enough points. My advisor couldn't tell me bc she said that it varies every semester so she couldn't tell at the time since I did apply in November. @ladeeda77 thank you! I hope so too! I'm tired of waiting! And don't worry u will get in! :) only positive thoughts :)
