hi there, I'm a spring 2010 UT houston hopefull, I'm trying to see who else is embarking on this journey so we can support each other. I really enjoyed tracking the Fall 2009 class, and I hope we can do the same. I still have a few classes to take. I am currently taking chemistry. As of now my science GPA is 3.33, and overall gpa is 3.61. I am taking the net in May.
Can't wait to hear from others.
heeeey guys quick question. basically i think i've decided that i would rather go to ut over twu, but i'm having an issue with the whole summer school thing. my younger sister is graduating from high school in the summer, and two of my best friends are getting married. i read online that if you miss clinicals for an unexcused absences they could potentially fail you, and i do realize that these aren't "excused" absences, but do you think the professors would allow me to make things up if arranged way ahead of time? i think in the end i would really regret missing these things

Like anything else it probably depends on the professor. I know clinical space is hard to come by though, the woman who interviewed me told me because most of the nursing schools in the area (ADN and BSN alike) have increased their class size clinical space is at even more of a premium than it ever has been before, so it might not just be a matter of making up the days later. Just food for thought.
On this same note though, I am going to miss the first two days of class because I will be out of the country. My brother is legally blind and rapidly losing what little vision he has left, so several months ago our parents arranged for a trip for him to go to Rome (we are Catholic, and my brother is very devoted, he has even considered the priesthood) before he goes totally blind. Unfortunately, because of the differences in the law here and in Italy, my brother can't take his assistance dog, so I'm going as his seeing-eye midget (he is 6'2" to my 5'5" haha). So at orientation I'm hoping to talk to the professors of the two classes I will be missing. Hopefully they will be understanding. I'm also hoping someone *cough*one-of-you-guys*cough* will be nice enough to fill me in on what I miss lol.

cjbarnes, i'm sure they will be very understanding! or at least i hope so, i couldn't understand why anybody could not be understanding of that, it's a GREAT thing you're doing!

During the summer you *might* be able to make up one clinical...missing three would be suicidal...the summers will be hard and fast, and very few opportunities to make up.
Ali - I would weigh whats more important - the events or getting done a semester earlier than TWU. Not to be pessimistic, but I dont think that clinical teachers would be very understanding of having to miss these classes since you knew you'd have these classes to take. But if it were me and I really wanted to go to these events and it didnt matter too much if I graduated a semester later, I would just go to TWU. The schools seem to be equally qualified, so I don't think you'd be worse off going to TWU.
Hope this helps

N3511 Health Assessment for BSN
-Just the pocket guide
N3515 Adult Health Care I for BSN
N3517 Pathophysiology for BSN
-Just the textbook & workbook (workbook wasn't NEEDED but we found that some of the test questions came from them)
N3540 Pharmacotherapeutics for BSN
-we had to turn in the workbook pages but we didn't need the text...all came from the PPTs.
Ok for Patho and Pharm it may be completely different because I know yall have different professors now so that may not be so accurate! Hopefully not too much has changed that yall need all that extra stuff for Adult Care I but the book is really all you should need...the dictionary, publication manual, & the lab/diagnostic guide is definitely not necessary...the math dosage book wasn't on our list but for dosage and solutions tests they usually give yall PPTs with practice questions. You can get that book if you want extra practice I guess but I don't think it'll be worth it. also, the nurse's pocket guide for Adult Care can be helpful for care plans, but I highly recommend getting a care plan book instead...helps TONS.
