UT houston spring 2010 hopefuls

Published

hi there, I'm a spring 2010 UT houston hopefull, I'm trying to see who else is embarking on this journey so we can support each other. I really enjoyed tracking the Fall 2009 class, and I hope we can do the same. I still have a few classes to take. I am currently taking chemistry. As of now my science GPA is 3.33, and overall gpa is 3.61. I am taking the net in May.

Can't wait to hear from others.

Man, it sure got quiet on here! BTW, I got in, too. I was lurking until today.

I know. It's soooo quiet on here. Congrats on getting in. I was wondering if anyone knows if we will get a booklist at orientation. And do they just assign our schedules or do we have some choice? I have been looking at stethoscopes a friend had recommended but I'll probably wait til after orientation to get it or put it on my Christmas list! I might be really lame and ask for amazon gift cards too so I can buy books :)

We have no choice whatsoever on the schedules. There aren't enough teachers to accommodate our preferences, unfortunately. They said that at the info session. Books will be a major expense, so I'm right there with ya asking for giftcards!! Or we may have to get them through the school. There will be a lot to cover at orientation - drug screens, background checks, CPR, shots, physicals, etc. I hope there's a booklist. I'd like to get them early and start reading!

I was wondering about that too. I did find the UT nursing bookstore site and looked for the books we needed based on the classes we are scheduled to have. Adult Health Care I alone has 6 required books. Yikes! I hope they offer a package where we can buy all the books for our nursing school careers at a low price.

Thanks for that link. I was looking all over for something like that last night. Maybe I was just tired but I couldn't find it to save my life.

So has anyone else been reading the program policies? I love how under Student Attire for Clinical Section they say we can wear Fanny packs as long as they dont interfere with performance. Im buying my fanny pack right after I get my scrubs.

LOL. Maybe it would be handy. I prefer pockets but .......

So we just need navy scrubs with a white lab jacket. I guess I'm going to have to get white shoes.

i read something somewhere about a navy skirt...does anybody know what that was all about?

Specializes in none as of yet, hoping for ped oncology!.

Can we buy any brand of scrubs as long as they are navy? Or do they have to be from the school?

Also, class times are posted on the website for spring classes if you want to go take a look. It's looking like Health Assessment M 8-4 (there are breaks in between), Adult Health Care T 8 - 12, Patho R 1 - 4, and Pharm R 9 - 12. It also says our clinicals for AHC will be on either W, F, or Sat from 6:30 to 2, although I don't know how accurate that is. But it should just be one 8 hour day from what I understand.

Evidently females can wear a navy scrub skirt or uniform dress, as long as it falls within 1" above or below the knee.

No it's optional. I don't know why anyone would WANT to wear a skirt, just that you can. Maybe for religious reasons or something?

And if you wear a skirt, does that mean you have to wear opaque white pantyhose? Just sayin...
