UT Health Pacesetter BSN Spring 2018

Published

Yes, it is extremely early to begin talking about the Spring 2018 class, however, I thought it would be nice if we could all get together here and go through our pre-req/application/acceptance journey. It would be fun to lend support, chronicle our stresses and excitements and see how everything unfolds for us from now until the first day of class (assuming we get accepted).

I'll start:

I'm taking my pre-reqs at Lonestar (10 hrs for Spring, 14 hrs for Summer). I plan to take 18 hrs for Fall and will be testing out of 15 hrs via CLEP. I work PRN in a Critical Care unit at a major hospital. I will be taking the HESI in May; once Spring semester ends. Lastly, I have high hopes to be accepted into the Honors program once I am eligible to apply, since I have a deep interest in research.

I hope to hear from some of you! The application deadline is September 1 and there is a webinar info session at 10am tomorrow.

God bless.

Unfortunately you are correct. I am not saying give up all hope, but I've been denied twice before and this is the same order notifications went out before. I am expecting a denial email either today or the first part of next week.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking too. I have been waitlisted for A&M College Station too.

Well .. when someone said that more acceptances were going to go out that was a lie! I wish they would at least state why someone is denied because GPAs and HESI scores are definitely not why! Some people with high scores are denied and others with lower scores are accepted, it's confusing! ... In the end congrats to everyone accepted & good luck to those waitlisted! It's sucks, but we'll make it :)

This is the most frustrating part for me. I have applied 3 times so far and have yet for them to tell me why. I'd hate to waste time and money re-taking courses to increase my GPA when there are some with lower GPA's being admitted. Same goes for the HESI.

I completely understand the frustration from that. My HESI score was a 92, 3.43 Nursing Science GPA, 3.64 cumulative GPA, and 3.69 GPA when I graduated from A&M. Plus I have healthcare experience in a maternity clinic. So, it would be good to know why they accept some over others.

This is very frustrating! Now I'm just hoping to get accepted to PVAMU! I had high hopes of being accepted as I have good grades and all but apparently that's not enough, or maybe I didn't get lucky. Best of luck guys :)

As I too am pretty much waiting for a denial. I compared stats with someone who got accepted into the program for Spring 2018 and the one thing that seperated us was the fact that she had managed to complete her prereqs in about a year and a half taking about 5 classes and courses in the summer. Me it has taken much longer due the fact I could only take 2 a semester maybe 3 and no summers. So I am thinking that prior course work made her look like more of a accelerated canidate for a accelerated program than a canidate such as me. Just my guess as to why my comparable GPA and test score were not accepted.

There seems to be no method to their madness. I have a friend that was accepted for Spring 2017 and she had pretty much the same stats as me, only differences were she was 5 years younger, had only done nursing coursework, and worked at a clinic. I, on the other hand, have an Associates Degree from Culinary school and have had extensive schoolwork before starting my nursing track, which I completed in 1 1/2 years. I have a nursing pre-req of 3.86, and science GPA of 4.0, and scored a 94.4% overall on my HESi (96 Anatomy and math, 92 reading comprehension, and 94 on grammar and vocabulary). Yet, here I am with my portal still saying "application under review" just waiting on my denial. Its so frustrating to not understand why you don't get accepted, there isn't much more I can do to make my application or stats appear any better than they do. I'm at a loss. To make matters worse on my end, I received my transcript evaluation and they did not award me full credit for two courses, so I started retaking them last week to ensure I'd be able to start if I got accepted. Now, I can only get a 25% refund on these courses, which I would have much rather not taken as 6 and 8 week courses, and spent all this money on right before Christmas. Sorry to be so negative, I'm just so disheartened. Congrats to all that have been accepted, and the best of luck to everyone that is waitlisted.

Honestly, I just cannot bring myself to believe that all the acceptances have already gone out. My GPA is 3.9, and I got a 95 on the HESI. I'm already accepted to TWU so I'm not freaking out, but if I don't get accepted, I'm going to be in shock. I thought I was going to be a shoo in, but I'm glad I talked myself into also applying at TWU. Also, I've been trying to call, but no one picks up at UT. : /

Don't feel bad. I've seen applicants with 4.0 GPA's and 97-98 HESI scores be denied.

All you need is one acceptance to become a nurse! Don't feel to bad. With >1000 applicants, most everyone will have near perfect GPAs and test scores. There simply are not enough spots.

I wonder how many are on the waitlist.

I wonder how many are on the waitlist.

I wonder too! I've been told there is no longer a deposit required for those accepted to secure their spot. Therefore, I'm afraid people that are still not sure whether they'll be able to start in the Spring and/or are still unsure of which school they'll attend, might hold on to their spot through November. Which means we might not hear from them until Dec. if we don't make it in. At this point though all we can do is be hopeful :) I do wonder how many of those accepted are considering not going?
