UT Health Pacesetter BSN Spring 2018

Published

Yes, it is extremely early to begin talking about the Spring 2018 class, however, I thought it would be nice if we could all get together here and go through our pre-req/application/acceptance journey. It would be fun to lend support, chronicle our stresses and excitements and see how everything unfolds for us from now until the first day of class (assuming we get accepted).

I'll start:

I'm taking my pre-reqs at Lonestar (10 hrs for Spring, 14 hrs for Summer). I plan to take 18 hrs for Fall and will be testing out of 15 hrs via CLEP. I work PRN in a Critical Care unit at a major hospital. I will be taking the HESI in May; once Spring semester ends. Lastly, I have high hopes to be accepted into the Honors program once I am eligible to apply, since I have a deep interest in research.

I hope to hear from some of you! The application deadline is September 1 and there is a webinar info session at 10am tomorrow.

God bless.

If it makes anyone feel better. I have been denied four times. I honestly wish I could get an explanation!

Have you applied anywhere else? This will most likely be my 3rd denial from UTH, but I have a total of 11 denials from 6 different programs.

Yes. I have a total of 5 denials.

Is anyone having trouble viewing the apply uth page or not? My application status still said "under review" a few days ago & I can't access the page today. Just want to confirm my status.

What are you told when you ask about why you were denied, from UTH in particular?

I have the same problem.. maybe all decisions are done and that's it for us .. 😣

Absolutely nothing. They will not return me emails and when calling they are act like I am putting them out.

I've been waitlisted, and have trouble logging in as well. Perhaps it's the system?

Hey guys! I have been accepted to the school, but I am looking to relocate since I live in Forth Worth. I am looking at the Villas at Hermann Park, but I will need a roommate to be able to afford the rent. If you are interested send me an Email [email protected]. A little about me: 23 year old male, don't drink or smoke, I was a supplemental instructor in the past (read: amazing study techniques and skills), clean, enjoy cooking and baking, workout in the mornings so I don't stay up late, organized, energetic, fun. I really don't have a preference on the sex of my roommate as long as this individual is responsible, clean, doesn't drink or smoke in the apartment, and is drama free.

Absolutely nothing. They will not return me emails and when calling they are act like I am putting them out.

I see, yeah it does seem like a very mysterious selection process. I'm sure there's reason to their choice as I highly doubt a school would base their selection on a lottery, but it is terrible that there isn't any suggestion for "improvement" or to increase odds of being selected. I certainly wish I had more information; i'm debating whether to retake some of my B's in order to increase my pre-req GPA.

I'm sure their process is multifaceted, but I do wish they provided their reasoning behind it (or at least warn of it on their website so people can plan to apply to several places and not only this one, like I did). I do think with how competitive this school is becoming, and the significant interest in nursing as a career, they are having to make their selection on a "black and white" basis of solely analyzing people's evaluations. In my opinion what I think they use to select those admitted in pools of highly competitive applicants, is the pre-nursing GPA (including the time frame it took someone to complete it, whether they worked during and/or if they repeated courses), then science GPA (given that many people have that 4.0 or near it), and then HESI scores (which makes sense given that one exam and how well you do in, doesn't necessarily reflect how well someone can handle an Accelerated BSN). From what I've heard from current students, and what I've read here, it does seem like this is somewhat of a pattern with highly competitive pools. And lastly, I honestly think the way their selection process works, varies from semester to semester and is based on the diversity/competitiveness of that current pool. Who knows, it's only human to try and find reason to what we cannot understand haha - perhaps it is a lottery and I am totally wrong :) Either way I admire your diligence in pursuing this career! It's admirable and totally helps to humble me when I think about my situation and the frustration w/not being admitted.

I saw a few comments about not being able to access the applyUTH website so I checked and I am able to access the applyUTH website but my application status is still listed as "Application under review." Maybe this is just me being in denial or naive since this is my first time applying, but I truly believe that they are not completely done with acceptances. I'm not sure if in the past more acceptances have gone out even after some people being waitlisted but I am holding on to believing that there is still a chance and spots open. Hopefully we'll know more by this Thursday but for any of us whose applications are still listed as "Application under review" or waitlisted, hang in there and have faith. Don't let yourself get discouraged! :)
