UT AE-MSN 2019

Published

Hey everyone! I haven't seen a new thread for people applying to UT Austin's 2019 AE-MSN program, so I figured I'd start one :) I haven't had any correspondence from the school since submitting final material on October 1st. Anyone hear anything back from the school yet??

It is a numbered waitlist, I was able to ask Tracy where I stood on the list and she also told me last year they admitted 14 students off the waitlist for the LeaDS program. I am currently #10 so my fingers are crossed. Congratulations to all those admitted!

Hi everyone- I found out yesterday that I was accepted into the PMHNP program! I'm beyond excited. Hopefully you all will hear back soon. Best of luck!

Hey there rachel.cory-

Congratulations on your acceptance! Would you be willing to share your stats for GRE and different Resume highlights? I am hoping to apply for the following term and it would be helpful to know some of the stats of an accepted student, I am happy to separately email you as well.

Has anyone else that has been accepted into the PMHNP program be willing to share their stats or tips for someone applying next year?

Thank you:)

Hey all! I was deferred from PMHNP to LeaDs and accepted today. I have NO idea what I’m going to do since I was also accepted to Columbia’s DNP PMHNP program... Ut Austin is SO much cheaper and I’m currently living here, but it’s also a 2 year + 1 semester nursing program... Anyone else who was deferred to LeaDs and accepted at other programs making the big decision?

txallie- I sent you a PM ?

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to give an update on myself and my application experience for future applicants. I was told in early December I was waitlisted for the PMHNP after my interview and asked if I wanted to apply for LeaDs which I accepted due to the fact that I can’t apply to other programs because I have to stay in the Austin area due to my husbands job. My LeaDs interview was done via Zoom even though I live local because the professor said that was easiest for her (I didn’t mind because I saved $12 on parking this way lol). My LeaDs interview was far more laid back than my PMHNP interview but I believe that’s due to different personalities of the professors. For my LeaDs interview I was asked “why do you want to be a nurse?” “Do you see yourself going on to complete the PMHNP certification afterwards (this was due to my original application being for PMHNP))” “what do you think are the differences between the medical model and the nursing model?” “What do you want to do with your nursing degree post graduation?” “Can you commit to not working in the first year?” “How do you practice self care and deal with stress?” She was very kind and told me she hopes I get admitted and the interview lasted about 45 minutes. As far as my stats I am in my 30’s (so not a young applicant). I have a BS in psychology with and overall GPA of 3.8 and a Masters in Counseling Psychology with a GPA of 4.0. My GRE was 305 with 4.5 in writing (much lower than the 317 wanted for the PMHNP program which I think really hurt me but I didn’t have time to retake). I am a veteran with five years of active duty service and 8 as a reservist. In the military I worked in law enforcement then in career counseling and in my civilian life I have several years of mental health experience mostly in family and adolescent crisis counseling however, I have also worked in a variety of outpatient settings doing counseling as well. I was offered admission to the LeaDs program which I accepted and plan to just do the certification after graduation which takes a year so only adds about six months onto my goal but is worth it IMO. If anyone wants to hear about my PMHNP interview in detail I’m happy to also give an account of that to help as well but don’t want this post to be super long. The PMHNP interview was much more intense and involved and also had several writing prompts that we had to write while at the interview. Hope this helps some future candidates! I can’t wait to meet the group in June.

Hello, hope u guys doing fine. I'm super glad to find this thread. I was accepted CNS program this summer. Currently live in Houston so its kind of giving me headache moving to Austin. I'm a female and currently looking for roommates and deeply appreciate any suggestions/tips/ experience about finding a place in Austin (esp from local pp). I know that the class will be kind of small so would be thrilled if any of u can be both my classmates and roommates. It will be just me and I'm very clean and easy going. I'm thinking of creating a group chat on Messenger for us if any of you like. Coz I assume we can share lots of things when school starts in June. Let me know and I can add u into the group. Thanks!!

congrats. Please create a group. I am waitlisted to CNS I hope I get in.How small do you think the class will be ?How do you know it will be small?

Wow Columbia much better school and probally more opportunities in NY.I personally think a second degree BSN is the way to go because alot of hospitals won't hire you unless you have a BSN, especially in higher educated parts of the country like the northeast or west coast.

Hello Dyamond!

I’m glad to hear I’m not the only one looking for a roommate or a place to live in Austin. I got accepted into the LeaDs program and would love to find a good place to live. I’m from El Paso, TX. It would be great to have a group with everyone in the AE-MSN that way we can find who needs a roommate or who knows of good place to live. Let me know if you have created a group ?

In case u can't see the pics. CNS has about 15-18 seats. Psy has 7-10 and LeaDs 35-38.
