UT AE-MSN 2016

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi all -

Just wondering who else is applying for the AE-MSN program at the University of Texas at Austin. I am applying to the psych NP track and super nervous about it! I know previous applicants did not hear back about interviews until early December and decisions until early February.

I was wondering the same thing! I got the background check email too. I like to think they would only send it to potential interviewees since that'd be less work for them than having to do background checks on everybody but I really have no idea.

I got it too----I'm sure it is sent out to everyone----they probably haven't even done more than a cursory review of applicants at this stage

I would expect that the background check is sent out to everyone. If you think about it, the background check would potentially eliminate looking at any of the rest of the package (and all that scoring), seeing as it would make any of that moot if we were to fail. But it's exciting to have something to do other than wait!

Well she mentioned that it takes 6 months to complete, so I dont think it will be used in the scoring at all or in determining anything. It will just prevent you from attending if you are granted admission.

I missed the six month timeline bit -- I wonder why it could take so long? Anyway I didn't expect it would factor into scoring, just preempt the need for looking at one's application at all.

And to the person who asked if anyone else was on pins and needles about interviews, I think I'll be on pins and needles until I get an acceptance or rejection letter!!

Hi everyone!

I applied last year and was accepted for Leads. I deferred my admission to 2016. I'm very excited/nervous to get started in June! Good luck to everyone!!! Hopefully this thread will pick up as things progress!

B_Black- I know I've already read all of the 2015 thread, but how was your experience with the admissions process last year?

Does anyone have any information on the number of applicants this year? Specifically for the NP track?

I heard about 60 people applied for the psych NP track. Not sure how many applied for the entire AEMSN program.

Just received this email:

"Thank you for your application to our FPMHNP program. This is a very competitive program and you are a highly qualified applicant. Unfortunately we received many more applications than we can interview and consider for admission to the FPMHNP program this year.

In order to be considered for admission to the LeaDs program during this admission cycle you will need to contact Tracy Demchuk by Monday, November 30, 2015 or sooner with your decision to change your program of interest to LeaDs. If Tracy does not hear from you by Nov. 30, 2015 your application will remain in the FPMHNP concentration and an admission decision will be rendered based on this concentration."

Is anyone else in the same boat? What are you going to do!? I definitely want to stay in the running for the FPMHNP program but I'd like to get into LEADS if I don't. I wonder if there is a way to stay in both applications but I am not sure - I'll check back on the 2015 thread.

Hey multipurpose, you should check out last years thread if you need help deciding what to do. I know that same email was sent out to several FPMHNP applicants last year as well. It seems like most of them (that posted in the thread), ended up switching and were offered a spot in LeaDs. I can't remember if they said they had to chose one or the other. Here it is: https://allnurses.com/online-nursing-schools/ut-ae-msn-930633-page2.html

I received this same E-mail just now. I'd say it's safe to assume that anyone (of the people who applied for Psych NP) who received that E-mail will likely NOT be admitted to the NP program. It wouldn't make sense for them to potentially discourage the psych NP candidates they actually plan to admit by sending this E-maill to ALL applicants. Then they'd just be left with the people they didn't want, as well as any other people who decided to take their chances by not switching tracks. I'd also imagine that, by this point in the admissions cycle, they've had a chance to at least do an initial review of all applicants for the competitive Psych NP program, and thus were able to make the decision to send out this E-mail to the applicants they know they do NOT want to accept. This is a smart business move on their part, as it still keeps the applicant pool high, and allows tuition dollars to be funneled into their larger program--The LEADS, or whatever it's called.
