UT AE-MSN 2016

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi all -

Just wondering who else is applying for the AE-MSN program at the University of Texas at Austin. I am applying to the psych NP track and super nervous about it! I know previous applicants did not hear back about interviews until early December and decisions until early February.

I've been interested in LEADs because it doesn't look like any program I've seen in other direct entry programs. What are you intending to pursue through LEADs, if you don't mind educating me?

This year's thread seems waayyy more quiet than last year's! Maybe when the time gets closer it will pick up?

I'm really excited and nervous all at once! Here's hoping time goes by super fast :)

Agreed, Kuri. Anybody out there a reapplicant?

Hello all,

I'm so glad a thread was finally started for this, I had been looking for one for the past couple of months! I applied for the AG CNS track (so glad the application process is complete, but now I'll be an anxious wreck until I hear something lol).

mmckinlay3 - You mentioned that there would be feedback by mid-October, is that for all programs or just LeaDs?

Good luck to everyone!!

Hello,

I agree, this thread does seem very quiet compared to last years! I also applied for the LeaDs track, and am very excited and anxious to hear back from the school as to what the next step is!

Good luck to everyone!!

Man I am so impatient already. I'm wondering how in the world I'll survive until we hear back, and it's only October! Gah!

Ha, I guess 2015 are a talkative cohort. Someone asked about Leads. This is the first year of the program, my cohort are the guinea pigs. So, about two years ago there were MANY specialties you could select when applying; public health, pediatrics, maternity?, etc. I believe there were still only two AP programs, the CNS and psych NP track. This past year they took all of the specialty programs (with the exception of CNS and FMHNP) and rolled them into one, this is the LeADs program.

Now that does not mean you must study public health if you are not interested in public health. The way leads works is you create your "portfolio" which is a set of classes that are complimentary of each other and of interest to you (ie. if you like public health you can take a bunch of public health classes, like maternity? Acute care? mental health? take those classes). To me the portfolio is comparable to a masters thesis. The leads curriculum is identical to the AP programs up until, I think the second semester after foundation? Leads is NOT an advanced practice degree, you will only get your regular old RN license.

Hope all of that makes sense. I know when we were all applying we had no clue what Leads was, there was very little info online. Good luck with the rest of the app process........I certainly don't miss that. Let me know if y'all have any other questions, I'll try to help out.

Did anyone else get an email from Tracy today? I submitted my app in early August so I thought for sure the email in my inbox today would be letting me know about interviews, but it was just an email saying they will let us know about interviews soon. My heart was beating so fast and it turned out to be nothing. Grrrr...I'm eager to get in front of the interviewers and move this process along!

I got it too! My heart stopped when I saw it! But then....it was information we already knew... Here's hoping we hear about interviews in mid-November and not January!

Hi All,

I was actually curious to know how the applicants are weighted. Hashi, since you have been through the process maybe you know. For example, if they are weighted out of 100; 20 points for GPA, 20 points for volunteer hours, 20 points for GRE, etc... Does anyone know?

Thanks!

Hi lola_girl! I know someone who is currently in the program and she said, if I remember correctly, that each item of our application is graded on a scale of 1-10. So the statement of purpose, each letter of recommendation, GRE score, GPA, resume, interview are all 10 points each. Don't quote me on that though! I just remember her telling me that was how they compare the applications.

Anyone else on pins and needles waiting to hear about interviews? I don't know how y'all are handling the anticipation, but I'm so eager to hear back!

Has anyone here applied to the program before? How many people here applied for the FPMHNP track?

Hey guys! Did everyone receive the email today regarding the background check? Do you think they send that out to everybody, or only applicants they are planning on interviewing?
