USF MSN CNL non nurse spring 2018

Published

Hello everyone. I was searching for a thread but could not find one so I am starting this discussion topic for USF MSN non nurse spring 2018 applications.

Lets all discuss our stats like GPA, volunteer experience, etc. I have a decent prerequisite GPA right now. I have registered for Micro and psychology and will be taking in fall. My undertgrad GPA is 3.15 in computer applications (not that good). After working in customer service I was no longer interested in computers so decided to change my major.

Lets start this journey together and good luck to everyone.

@macyymac being that I got accepted and I can tell you what I focused on for my personal statement. I made sure to answer those questions to the best of my ability, while giving them a very good idea of my past experiences and future goals and how those align perfectly with this program and the role of a CNL. Highlight your unique qualities. What will YOU bring to their program? How will YOU effectively impact the community around you upon graduation and entering the nursing field? Tell them what an honor it would be to attend their program. You have to stand out in order to get in because they will be reading hundreds of personal statements. I would be happy to help you revise your statement if you would like to email it to me. I have a week and a half before I start my program. Good luck!

Hi aftonheistand--

Thank you so much for the tips, I truly appreciate it! It would be great if you can help me out with my personal statement. However, I'm still new on this forum and cannot PM anyone yet. Is there an alternative way I can contact you instead?

You can email me your personal statement at [email protected] and I will revise it for you :)

@aftonheistand--

Just e-mailed you! Thank you so much!!!!

No problem! Give me a day or two and I'll email it back with comments! :)

Hi @macyymace! Yeah I emailed Aisha after I received my decision. Specific advice wasn't offered, but she provided general application tips to help strengthen the application. (Rewrite the personal statement, ask different people to write your letters of rec or have the same people rewrite them, have 2-3 people read your personal statement, retake courses, etc.)

Haha no worries, I actually posted that this week. I just started as a BI in April and have heard mixed reviews about the experience. I've had some people say it's good because it encompasses a lot of the skills necessary for nursing and then I've had others say that something "more medical" or in a hospital would be better. So as of right now, I'm still a bit conflicted lol.

Hi Everyone! I just submitted my application, but didn't have to pay an application fee! It says on the admissions page that there is an application fee, but nothing popped up for me before I submitted my app! Is there no app fee/did you not have to pay one?

Thanks so much!!

I submitted my application and did not pay a fee as well! I was curious about that.

Hello Everyone! When I submitted my application I did not pay any fee either. I think the reason behind is that earlier applications were submitted through a third party website. I remember I called the admissions office in May and they said that from now on application is going to be submitted via their official website.

Also, if you guys would like to share your stats that will be great.

Good luck to you all.

Hi Aftonheistand, I wish I knew earlier that you were willing to read personal statements. It would have helped a lot. It was my first time writing a personal statement and every professor I went to gave me give me different advice. It was quite helpful but on the same time I was confused that whose advice I should listen to.

When it comes to getting in this application cycle, I am not that hopeful as I do not have healthcare experience yet. I am planning to start volunteering next month.

Thank you for coming here and offering help.

@_futurenursebee,

Thank you for all the info! I really appreciate it. Good luck on your app!

Hi everyone! Few days have passed since the deadline and I am already anxious to hear back. This is my first time applying and I am now looking at other options in case I am not accepted. Does anyone have any suggestions for other schools they were also interested in? I know SM requires the HESI exam, has anyone ever taken this? My profile as an applicant was 3.88 GPA, currently taking microbiology, only one year of full-time work experience at Stanford Hospital since I graduated with a BS in Health Science. The personal statement took the longest for sure. Hoping the odds are in our favor.
