USF MSN CNL non nurse spring 2018

Published

Hello everyone. I was searching for a thread but could not find one so I am starting this discussion topic for USF MSN non nurse spring 2018 applications.

Lets all discuss our stats like GPA, volunteer experience, etc. I have a decent prerequisite GPA right now. I have registered for Micro and psychology and will be taking in fall. My undertgrad GPA is 3.15 in computer applications (not that good). After working in customer service I was no longer interested in computers so decided to change my major.

Lets start this journey together and good luck to everyone.

Hello all!

I'm also applying to USF's entry level MSN-CNL program, but for the OC campus this upcoming spring! I got waitlisted for the Fall 2017 OC campus, so I decided to give it another shot. I'm also planning on applying to University of San Diego's entry master's program for their Fall 2018 start. Here's what I have so far: Undergraduate degree from SDSU (3.64 cumulative GPA), prerequisite GPA for USF is ~3.8ish, volunteer at Kaiser Permanente, and just started working full time at one of the hospitals here in San Diego. I have a little bit of CNA experience in a skilled nursing facility as well! I still don't feel like this makes me a strong enough applicant, cause anything can happen! Lets all stay hopeful! :) Anyone else applying to the OC campus instead of the SF campus?

Hi guys! How are apps coming along for you all? I am so ridiculously nervous that I've lost the ability to sleep in peace at night :((

i am really hoping to get into this program for spring! What are your guys' stats if you don't mind sharing?

Hi! I've kinda been going back and forth between applying for Spring 2018 and applying for Summer 2018 at the moment. Just trying to give myself time to make my application as strong as possible.

@warsh26 , Hello, welcome to the thread. I am still working on my personal statement. Very less time left, I am nervous too. I am taking microbiology right now n statistics too. I have statistics from my undergraduate degree with a B but wanted to improve my grade so re-taking it. Honestly I feel like it is going to be very competitive and I do not have much healthcare experience but I am still going to apply. Did you submit your application? I will be submitting mine next week.

Good luck!

Hi guys! I was waitlisted for the Fall 2017 OC Cohort and decided to apply again for the Spring 2018 OC cohort. I graduated with a 3.4 GPA in Health and Wellness Promotion and was able to catch some clinical experience through an internship at a pediatric clinic and 2 years of working as the lead-medical assistant at an orthopedic clinic following graduation. Currently, I volunteer at the senior center in my city and have applied to volunteer at a couple hospitals as well while I apply to schools. My fingers are crossed for things to work out this time around!!

Hi -- someone posted on the Fall 2017 forum about tips for the application. I was recently admitted and just started school. I think the best advice I could give is to read some literature about the CNL role (google: "AACN clinical nurse leader"), and demonstrate in your personal statement that you have an understanding of it. How, in your academic or professional career, have you identified an opportunity for a process improvement and executed your plan?

Hi! Does anyone know if we can apply to both the SF and OC campuses for the same cycle? I've tried looking it up online and haven't found any answers... I've read that the OC campus is a little less competitive because it is a new program, and I wouldn't really mind which campus I got to.

Also did anyone else submit the application and not have to pay the fee? I got the confirmation email that I submitted it but I don't ever recall having to pay the application fee!

Best of luck to everyone!

Has everyone submitted their applications? I'm still waiting for my letters of recommendations... I'm hoping they won't judge me if I submit it the day its due. Also my personal statement came out to be a little longer than two pages, did anyone write longer than the "two page format"?

Hi everyone! I am starting my ELMSN program at Samuel Merritt in 2 weeks but I wanted to help answer some questions since I did go through this process twice (once waitlisted and once accepted.) @helloimkate no you can only apply to one campus at a time. OC campus is a lot less competitve right now because it's newer. I can tell you now that this school is hard (especially in SF) to get into. I had straight A's in my pre reques and a good overall GPA along with 7 years of various healthcare experience and waitlisted the first time. When I reapplied for the next semester, I got new letters of rec and completely redid my personal statement (and got accepted). @mango I highly recommend staying within the 2 page limit. My first one was well over 2 pages because Ingrid from admissions said it could be, and I got waitlisted. Then when I redid it I stayed within 2 pages and got in. Not saying that was the deciding factor but it could have helped. Ultimately I decided on SMU because it's closer to me and fits my goals better (has clinicals in my area at hospitals I want to work at, new experience cause I went to USF for undergrad, etc). I wish you all good luck! Try to stay calm and busy during the waiting period!

Hey everyone! So I decided to apply for Summer 2018 entry instead, but had a question about the application. What did you all put for section where it asks you to briefly describe professional and community activities? I know the writing space is limited, but did you include main responsibilities and describe the organization?

Hi everyone!

I'm applying for Spring 2018 as well, but I'm quite nervous about the personal statement part. Would you guys mind sharing what you focused on for yours? Any tips in general? I already finished mine, but I'm not sure where to go to get help in revising it. I went to the transfer/career center at the CC that I took my pre-requisites at and they told me they don't offer any help on personal statements for graduate programs; they straight up told me I'm on my own on this one. I would really appreciate if some of you can give me advice.

Hi _futurenursebee,

I was following the Fall 2017 thread and notice you were on there too. I hope you don't mind me asking, but did you speak to the admissions for any advice on bettering your application?

I also don't mean to sound overly creepy, but I saw your other post back in December. I was also a Behavior Interventionist for a year straight out of undergrad. I was wondering if you think this will be of any help as experience towards my application? or did you take on other health care related volunteer work?
