USF MSN-CNL non-nurse summer 2017

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello everyone! I am currently waitlisted in the spring 2017 cohort starting in Jan for the USF MSN-CNL non-nurse cohort 23, but I wanted to start a thread for those of you applying to the summer 2017 semester because if I don't get off the waitlist I will be reapplying for summer, and if I do get off the waitlist I can help you all with info on how the process works and what to expect. Either way, since I am going through it right now, I hope to be able to help new applicants. This time can be very stressful. Who all out there is applying?

Some denials go out as soon as 4 weeks after deadline while all admitted students usually get called at exactly the 8 week mark!

Four week mark is February 12th and 8 week mark is March 12th!! Hopefully we all hear back in March and not February :geek:

They do send out denials starting at 4 weeks and all through the process including at the 8 week mark. A lot of people were getting denied the same day as the people who got called for acceptances. I got my waitlist notification 3 days after the acceptance calls went out but it was post marked on the day they did the acceptance calls. I hope that helps! One thing to pay close attention to is that the day before the acceptances went out, applicants on here were indicating that their "status" changed on the online application from "Submitted- to be reviewed after deadline" to just "submitted". Both accepted and denied applicants had that happen to them, while mine stayed the same through the entire waitlisted period.

Good to know! Thanks!

Where is everyone else applying to?

I also applied to Samuel Merritt's ELMSN Case management and ELMSN FNP programs and an RN program (LMC). What about you?

I applied to University of San Diego's ELM program and then a handful of ABSN programs. I already got into MGH Institute in Boston and am just waiting to see if I get in anywhere else. Exciting times! :)

Congrats!! Are you from the Bay Area and possibly moving out of state? I'm from the Bay and have to stay in the Bay Area due to my husband's job and my child being established here in the school system with friends and all that. It would be too crazy to pack our whole lives up just for a few years! Haha. Praying that I get in somewhere around here!!

i'm in a similar boat, afton - i have two school-age boys (7 and 9). of course, i live in central valley - fresno - where there are absolutely no options for pursuing a ME-MSN. fortunately, the structure of USF's program and the relative proximity (compared to other non-nurse MSN programs) make it at least feasible for me to manage and still see my family. out-of-state, even southern california programs, are not an option - just too far. i'll be spending a lot of time in transit with USF, but it's doable and it'll be worth it. staying local, i would be looking at 5-6yrs to license and a graduate degree with a lot of time spent driving anyway. i'm sure some people think i'm crazy to be considering driving back and forth a couple days a week from fresno to USF, only staying in the bay when absolutely necessary...but oh well...where there is a will, there is a way.

I was born and raised in the east bay area, but I went to UC Irvine for undergrad (graduated in 2014) and I've stayed in Orange County ever since. I'm excited to possibly move back up to the bay area or even leave the state!! :)

@gabrielcphillips wow! That is determination! It is def doable and its commendable that you are willing to do that in order to go for your dreams. Makes complete sense! I commuted 4 hours total per day when I went to USF for my undergrad. I did take bart and muni though so I was able to study. Nonetheless, you get used to your commute and it all works out, which I am sure will happen for you as well!

yeah...i think i got the idea that it was possible reading one of your posts in the Spring 2017 cycle. planning to drive to the nearest bart station and do the same - ride and study. seeing the commute as dedicated study time...and the driving leg as me time...makes it much easier to swallow. i know i'm going to need the study time. i figure i might be able to get away with only staying in the bay area 1-2 nights a week...hopefully not more than 3. but yeah...i'll do whatever it takes.

It will be worth it for sure!!!!! Feels like this cycle is going by faster than the last cycle. Maybe because this is my second time through this process and I'm trying my best not to obsess over the outcome. What are you all doing to keep busy during this stressful time?
