Yea I have been checking every day. Applied to both those floors. Just seems like the minute i answer 'no' to the question about if i had my preceptorship on that specific floor my app just immediately gets thrown out. just was expecting more options than what has been available ?

What floor was this for? I feel like UCSD hasn't posted hardly ANY new grad spots. very disappointing i did see they had a position called 'new graduate RN' but it was for an outpatient clinic and only had one spot available...

I was hoping someone could help me understand this question a little more clearly and perhaps put it in different terms. 13.6 kg child diagnosed with a skin infection order: Ceftriaxone 408mg IV BID available: 500mg powder vial for reconstitution instructions: add 1.8mL of diluent solution (0.9% NS); resulting solution contains 250mg/mL recommended dose: 50-75mg/kg/day in 1-2 divided dose (max: 2g/day) administration: administer over 30 mins at a final concentration not to exceed 40mg/mL so the first half of the questions is asking for volume i would withdraw which i calculated as 1.6mL (408mg/250mg X mL) the next question asks "what is the maximum concentration of fluid you would dilute the ordered dose in?" I did (only because my professor told us to): 408mg/40mg X mL = 10.2mL I guess I'm just a little confused on what this question means. I understand that the reconstituted solution of 250mg/mL greatly exceeds the 40mg/mL maximum, but the "maximum" part confuses me. It makes it seem as if I could dilute it less if I wanted to. Why would you reconstitute a medication only to still have the final concentration be too high? For any question like this would you always just divide the amount ordered by the amount that final concentration shouldn't exceed? My professor tried to explain it to us but honestly didn't do a great job at it. The problem goes on to ask "at what rate would you set the IV pump to properly delivery this medication?" 10.2mL/0.5 hr = 20mL/hr so even though you withdraw 1.6 mL that's not the amount that actually needs to be infused?? Sorry if this is a long post. We have our med exam next week and I'm just trying to understand this whole maximum concentration thing. Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!!

After I submitted I received a letter in either late December or early January that I was selected for an interview in mid-February. It's a two day event with the first day being information sessions, tours, and a little cocktail hour and the second day is the actual interview. Just a couple weeks after that interview I received a letter in the mail that I was accepeted. As for work experienced, I worked as a medical scribe in the emergency department for 3 years. Everyone in my class definitely has varying levels of experience, though, so don't be discouraged! I believe your personal statement plays quite a big role in the application process. Good luck!! :)

I think it really depends on how organized you are and how much you stay on top of your studies. Here's what my typical week looks like: I have a clinical day from 6:30am-5pm, lecture day from 9am-8pm with a lunch and dinner break, and then a lab day from 8:30am-3pm. On my days off I have quite a lot of studying because we usually have some form of exam or quiz every week. I personally would probably be able to handle one day of work a week but nothing more than that. Come summer semester, you have 3 days of clinical and one day of lecture and it is notorious for being the hardest semester. So I think it depends on the semester and also the type of student you are (with your organization and prioritzation skills and what not). Hope this answers your question!

I applied to USD because I really liked that you got your MSN at the end of the program but didn't have to specialize in a field (like family NP) because while I think I do want to become an NP eventually I'm not sure the field and a truly want to work as a bedside nurse for a while. To be honest, I was set on going to a school out of California (I've lived in CA my whole life) because I wanted a new experience but after I went to the USD interview I fell in love with the school and the program. I'm about half way through my first semester and I really enjoy it so far. We have one day of lecture, one day of clinical, and one day of skills lab. Sometimes it can seem a little disorganized but I guess that's just the way it goes. The faculty truly wants all of the students to suceed and it's comforting knowing there's that support system. Overall I am happy with my choice of choosing USD :)
