USF BSN & ABSN Hopefuls Summer 2015

Published

I know I am jumping on this topic early but is anyone else excited about the upcoming ability to apply to USF? Lets get to know each other! Share a little about yourself. We can also talk about the application process, writing sample, gpa, facts/things you have heard, concerns/thoughts, other schools your applying, ect.

Lets get a conversation going! Go bulls!!

Yep, those are the 3 questions.

I emailed them through SOAR and had my application changed from submitted to SAVE. I will rework my essay. I have 15 years management experience and some volunteer hours at USF, but no health care experience. My BS is in Business from USF. Being my overall GPA is not competitive, I doubt my chances. I think I will apply to both the upper and accelerated program for Fall. I spoke with a counselor at HCC and was told I had a high chance getting accepted into their program. I want a BSN and would rather take the 15 month route vs basically 4 years.

Well, I felt like a procrastinator having to still do my essays, but it looks like a lot of people are now in the same boat and having to re-do theirs, anyway! =/

Looks like USF finally evaluated the last of my pre-reqs and I'm at a 3.78 overall and a 3.93 (darn B+ in Statistics back in 2010) for my pre-reqs.

This question has probably been answered here, but I thought I read that we should hear back by mid-March. With the application deadline being March 1st for both the ABSN and upper-division sequence, I'd assume we wouldn't actually hear anything until at least six weeks past that, putting admissions decision notifications around mid-April. Does this sound right?

On the paperwork given during orientation, it states that notifications are given by the 4th week, however, I have read that students found out as early as 2 weeks after the application period closed.

Yeah you will more than likely will find out the beginning of the third week after application deadline! And denial emails were sent out first it seemed. . . Not sure anywho good luck!! #gobulls

I was told by a SON adviser that the admissions committee really only focuses on your overall GPA and the (4) science pre-req courses when it comes to admissions. And she also stated that the essay questions carry the most weight and consideration is given to those of us with Graduate degrees as it demonstrates our academic aptitude.

Hello Everyone !!

Im trying to decide whether or not I should applied to USF BSN or ABSN program. My GPA pale in comparison to everyone on this board:( . I have a 3.339 overall GPA and a 3.23 science prerequisites GPA. I called USF admission and basically was discreetly told that I wouldn't get accepted with a GPA below a 3.65.

Hi me10! Just to give you a point of reference, I applied during the last cycle with an overall GPA of 3.23 and a prereq GPA of 3.82 and was wait-listed for the ABSN and denied from the Upper division BSN. That being said anything can happen if you have amazing essays!

I am about to start my writing sample! These questions are so much different from the previous years. I had a good idea on what to type and now I'm a little caught off guard! Hopefully I get to meet some of you guys in this program. :) Fingers crossed!

It caught me off guard as well; I had my essay done in early November and I was just waiting to submit it as soon as it opened. Nonetheless, I feel these scenario based questions really demonstrate one's ability to write chronologically, along with reflecting on students personality.

Are you in the current Patho class?

Hi everyone! Just found this thread today, very happy to see others are just as nervous as myself! I have been working steadily on my essay and feel that its coming along nicely. Any advice current ABSN students or recent grads can offer would be very helpful!

Best of luck to everyone!

At Me10- Untrue. I was accepted with a lower GPA than that.

Make up for it in your essay. Even if you don't have a healthcare background (I did not), make your experiences and prior education relevant. Let them know what you have to offer. Remember, it's an opportunity to sell yourself to the college. A good essay can really make a difference.
