Hello!
I am applying for the Fall 2015 smester in the Second Degree sequence and I wanted to see who is out there that can give me some advice or commiserate!
I am so nervous about my essay... Their instructions are slightly vague and I am unsure of how to capture their attention and convey my passion for nursing.
Do you think I will get in with 2 years CNA experience as a school "nurse" and a 3.6 pre-req GPA?
Thanks in advance for your responses!
I am in a unique situation. I was actually accepted to the Fall 2014 Accelerated BSN sequence last year. I went through the orientation, registration, and was set to begin classes. Unfortunately, I had to drop from the program prior to starting classes for medical reasons. I petitioned the College of Nursing for re-entry, however I was not able to do so because I did not withdraw from the program because I dropped prior to the add/drop deadline.
I applied with a 3.66 GPA. After submitting my application through SOAR, I was moved to committee within 3-4 days after the application closing date (6/1). I received my acceptance on 6/17 which was about 2 weeks later. The class size for Fall 2014 was about 150 students of which were about 60% upper division, 15% VCARE, and 25% Accelerated.
I have re-applied for the Fall 2015 term and I am hopeful that I can get in again. I feel like I missed out on a great opportunity last year and am holding out hope that I get a 2nd chance.
I would be happy to answer any questions that you guys may have!

Thanks for the information!! I hope you get in again as well :)
From what I heard last year, there are anywhere from 600-800 applicants for the term (UD/SBN/VCARE). Of the total application cycle, there are a number that apply without having completed the pre-reqs, lower GPA, etc. which are not considered for the program, hence the "Committee" status in SOAR. I think they accept all apps before the deadline and screen them to see who is actually eligible. They move the eligible applicants to Committee Status in SOAR, then choose the accepted pool of students and wait-list from there.
Last year when I was accepted, there were about 150+ students admitted to the program.
For this summer cohort we had between 500 to 600 applicants with only 120 positions offered; only 30 were second degree and 1 or 2 are V-care, the rest are UD. To my surprise 2 second degree student already dropped out due to the insane work load that is only going to worsen in the upcoming semesters.
To my understanding, the fall semester is where they have the greatest number of applicants but you never know.
Hi all! I applied to the upper division for Fall 2015. I'm concerned that my GPA won't be high enough (although it's higher than the minimum requirement). Has anyone gotten in with a GPA under 3.5? I worked very hard on my essay, so I'm hoping that will score me enough points since I've heard that it makes up 50% of your overall score. It's going to be a long 2-3 weeks! Good luck everyone :)
