USF Accelerated BSN Fall 2015!

Published

Hello!

I am applying for the Fall 2015 smester in the Second Degree sequence and I wanted to see who is out there that can give me some advice or commiserate!

I am so nervous about my essay... Their instructions are slightly vague and I am unsure of how to capture their attention and convey my passion for nursing.

Do you think I will get in with 2 years CNA experience as a school "nurse" and a 3.6 pre-req GPA?

Thanks in advance for your responses!

Second degree is accelerated, only 4 semesters. Upper division is 6. I'm doing second degree because I already have a bachelors and want to knock it out. We were just told at orientation that for summer, 70 upper division students were accepted and 30 second degree were accepted out of just over 500 applicants.

Thank you taybray27. This is insane!!! So unfair!!!

So, for upper division you don't have to have bachelors and have higher chances to get in!!! Hmmm.

They told us to not tell what the questions were... They were very simple though. I interviewed on Monday March 21st and got in the Friday after.

Taybray27, sorry for bothering you with my questions about the interview.

How many people were present?

Did they have all your documents (resume, transcripts) prior the interview or you supplied then before you started? I definitely am going to bring everything with me, just would like to know more details. Thank you.

There were 2 women in my room, but there were 3 different rooms. I didn't bring anything, I think they discourage that. They already know all of your stats. One woman asks the questions and the other is just there to take notes. It's very short and to the point, like I said they do not mean for it to be very conversational! I left the interview not feeling so great about it but I got in which is awesome. And it's not about all grades or experience. I had a 3.6 GPA and no prior healthcare experience, so don't feel like you won't get in. Just give it a shot!

Thank you. My bachelor's GPA is 3.68, out of all my prereqs I have just one B+ for chemistry. The rest are A's and A+'s. No healrhcare experience, except volunteering in the hospital. I feel very strong, but I think it's just a mater of luck. Depends on the mood of the interviewers. Lol.

Let me just say that some professors change your life and make you a better nurse, while others widdle you down and add unnecessary stress to your life. It's a mixed bag, but overall you get good people. Clinicals are the best part in my opinion! That's where we truly learn and get to see our textbooks come to life. We are empowered in the hospital and it makes you feel like "yeah, I can be a good nurse. I will be a great nurse." Lab is sometimes too short to actually learn the skills well enough. Besides the skills they do checkoffs for, you get one day in the lab for like an hour to practice a skill and then you're supposed to do it in the hospital. My first IV stick was botched because I had only poked a dummy arm with very obvious veins and red water for blood like twice. On a PT that needs an IV, they are usually dehydrated, overweight, have bad veins, or some other factor that makes it very challenging to stick. So that's just one example of how fast lab is. There will be times you want to rip your hair out. Not because the content is too hard, you ladies and gents applying a very capable of finishing this program, but because it is like juggling chainsaws and then the professors add more chainsaws to the mix. We have 22 credit hours right now. 3 clinical days, we had lab in the beginning with med pass checkoffs which was seriously stressful, we're cramming med surg 1 and 2 into one semester, and we have PAT packets, ATI exams etc. I know you're aware this program is crazy, I know you want this and I do too. I'm not complaining as much as I am trying to give you a heads up.

THANK You, MegGusta! !!! Yes, I know the program is crazy and I know that I'm gonna like it no matter what. About labs. I heard from many students in different colleges you might request additional time to spend in lab to practice. Create like study group, the more people, the better chances you have. And practice on your own.

Thank you again. Hope you'll do great! !! All of us!!!

Hey guys!!!

How's school???

What are your impressions after 2 semesters???

Can you share your opinion about program, professors, clinicals?

Thank you.

It's definitely a tumultuous love/hate relationship. But I in no way regret it and we've all grown so much! I never thought I would come this far this fast and I cannot wait for preceptorship :) Medsurg was challenging in the best way and I feel ready for pediatrics and OB. Time management is everything and I've learned how to find time to study, work, and destress in an ever changing balance.

Hey guys!!!! How are you doing so far?

Is that summer a and summer b for semester 3 and 4? Looks like the program is done within a year. Is that correct?

Hello all! I just got the interview notice last week for the Summer Start Second Degree Sequence. I hope everybody is doing well in their courses. Might there be any additional wisdom or knowledge anybody might wish to impart? Is it a group interview or just you with the interviewers? I am also wondering about the weekly schedules. What days of the week are clinicals? Or does it depend on where you have clinicals? I know the program is 4 semesters, does that mean if I start this summer, i'll take summer 2017, fall 2017, spring 2018, summer 2018, and then you are done? Thanks in advance! I am just so incredible nervous.

Congratulations and Good luck!!!

It is not a group interview. It is you and 2 interviewers (one is asking questions, other is recording).

About schedule: first semester is ok, monday and wednesday labs (for first couple weeks) and classes, clinical 1 day (depends where you are, could be tuesday, thursday or friday). Second and third semesters: mondays, wednesdays labs and classes, tuesdays, thursdays, fridays clinicals (very intence). Yes, you will be done august of 2018 but you have to work very hard to get there.

Good luck again and be yourself!!!
