how to use saunders ? Please help me

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I just got the saunders review cd from the library and was wondering, is 10 quesitons all it will give you at a time. I love that feature!!!! and what kinda score should I be getting to feel confident in taking the nclex????

When you first get to the startup part of the cd...you can choose either quiz (10 questions), Exam (maybe 100+ questions) or Study which will give you MANY questions. The more content areas you check on the study part will give you more questions.

As far as % to get, well I am not sure about that one. I was consistently getting about 70% before I took boards. I just took NCLEX and passed with 75 ?'s...only you can judge if you feel prepared or not.

Good Luck!

You only want to do the 10 questions at a time, then review each and every rationale for the answers, both correct as well as the incorrect choices. This will give you the best idea of what to expect on the exam.......and do not do more than 100 questions per day, if you are actually reviewing for the exam now.

I was wondering what a good score on those Saunders quizes is too...?? I know that on Kaplan, if you can get above a 65, then there is a good chance of you passing the boards. But I wasnt sure about Saunders. Is above a 65 good on Saunders too??? I am taking those 100 Q tests on the Saunders CD and I am getting around 60 - 65.

thanks Suzanne! If only doing 100 a day then how long do you suggest on studying for the nclex? I have been about a month now with nclex 3000 and doing flashcards and such.

I always did Saunders in the review mode. I actually set up the review mode so that I could answer every question on the CD. I didn't end up doing that. I did maybe 800 q's from Saunders.

But you can focus on certain areas or take quizes or exams which are 75 questions long. I don't know if I would recommend the 10 questions only at a time, because when I would do quizzes I would get 90-100% on them. It

seemed like the questions from the quizzes weren't as challenging.

To answer scorpilisa~ I'm not sure what scores on Saunders since I never took their exams but only a few times and scored high 70's. Kaplan 65% is true. I would focus on the rationales! and I would use the scores to see if I at least improved my scores or not. If they were going up, then yeah I was retaining something, if they were going down, things needed to be looked at closer and focused on that area.

You should do between 3000 to 4000 quesitons before the exam, it doesn't matter from which source as far as the questions base, but Saunders oes the best job of explaining the rationale on why each answer was either chosen or not chosen.

Unfortunately, I have seen mistakes in most other materilas.

I suggest a six week program for the review.

Were you ever second guessing yourself and saying on the inside..."maybe I am just memorizing the questions?.....??????

Amy,

I never did the same exams more than once. All the questions I used, I had never seen. I had teacher tell me to do the same question bank over and over but what is the point? So when I say I wanted to see if my scores improved that meant that no matter how the question was worded if I knew Asthma, I knew it or needed to work on it more. Does that make sense? Sometimes I can explain things confusing.

I had teacher tell me to do the same question bank over and over??? I wonder why?

I do not agree with that. Once you do it and completely understand the rationale behind it, then go on to others. A few weeks later, you may wish to review and see how your score has improved.
