when can I call again?
Hello All~ I interviewed for a position several weeks ago. Last Monday I called to ask about the position again. The manager wasn't available so I just left a message. I have not heard anything as of a week later, but the position is still available online and they have since posted a new position. At what point can I call again? Since she hasn't returned my phone call I am thinking I did not get the position, however I would like to hear that from someone's mouth. Any ideas....I'm going crazy! Thanks

The jobs I have applied for are actually at another facility in town. I believe transfering at my current facility can happen after 120 days....thank you for that heads up though

Switch jobs so soon??
Alright, I need honest advice...don't worry you won't offend me. Here's my deal: Just moved to a new city, I've been a nurse a little over a year. I took this job thinking I would love it, but HATE it. I just don't like the patient population...it's not my thing apparently. I tried and tried to get a job in the OR before I moved, but nothing was available at the time. So...I took this job thinking It would be good experience for a year or so then I could move on. However, now I just don't think I can take it that long....A month more feels like it would be too long. I came home the other day crying and instantly began looking for jobs OUTSIDE of nursing, that's how bad it was. So I guess what I want to ask is....How bad is it going to look if I apply for these OR positions (there are several) after only being at my new job for a couple months. Will hiring managers even glance my way, or will they be scared off that I want to leave my job after only a few months. Any help, advice, or your experiences would be great! Thanks, FirePup

Iowa City area nurses...
Hello All~ Just wondering if any of you work or have friends that may work at the University of Iowa. I am moving from north Iowa to the Cedar Rapids area and have high hopes of getting a job at the U of I. Just wondering how long it usually takes from application time to say interview time to hire time. Any info would be great. Thanks

Electronic med administration in Ia
Sorry I didn't see this sooner....as for your question though. I never worked at MGMC, but I did do a preceptorship there in ICCU. All in all it seemed to be a nice place to work they were friendly and welcomed me. I believe I enjoyed MGMC better than the Des Moines hospitals, just because they were very friendly there, as is the Ames community. Boy do I miss it!

non nursing bachelors degree instead of BSN?
Hey All! I recently graduated in Aug. from an ASN program, have taken NCLEX and passed, and have my license. I thought during my ASN program I would just do a RN-BSN type program which wouldn't take long as I was enrolled at the State university for two years prior to starting the ASN program. Now as I research programs and whatnot I have been looking at non nursing bachelor's programs (online) and finding that these are much more appealing to me. One in particular that has caught my interest is an Occupational Safety and Health degree. The program is accredited through many agencies (which are the good accrediting agencies again?) and the classes seem right up my alley. Also I should mention I am very interested in the safety planning and other things that would be involved with this major. Have been very interested in Haz Mat, Bio Terrorism, and Fire Safety for many years (my dad is a county Em. Mgmt. coordinator). Basically will having this type of bachelors degree would put me out of the running if say I wanted some sort of nursing mgmt job and do you think that having both occupational safety and health along with an associates in nursing would be advantageous to finding a job within the planning realm? Thanks!

IN LIMBO!!! officialy RN, still Unemployed. Am I alone?
I understand how you're feeling at the moment. I have been searching for jobs since BEFORE graduation...finally had 1 interview, have heard nothing and I have inquired what's going on several times. Now I have passed boards and I am still having problems finding a job. So no you aren't alone. All I can offer is to keep trying, bug the HR department if you must and good luck!

how to use saunders ? Please help me
When you first get to the startup part of the cd...you can choose either quiz (10 questions), Exam (maybe 100+ questions) or Study which will give you MANY questions. The more content areas you check on the study part will give you more questions. As far as % to get, well I am not sure about that one. I was consistently getting about 70% before I took boards. I just took NCLEX and passed with 75 ?'s...only you can judge if you feel prepared or not. Good Luck!

NCLEX today!
well the dreaded test finally arrived. I slept HORRIBLY last night, but thankfully the test wasn't until 1515 this afternoon (2 hours drive). I got up at a reasonable time (0830) took my time getting ready and drove down and met a former co-worker for lunch. Having lunch with her was nice...took my mind of the test. Well I finally got to the test center at about 1415 (first one there for the afternoon session, heheh!) They allowed me to go through the whole registration part and start whenever ready which was great that I didn't have to sit for an hour. I did good at staying fairly calm during the first part of the test...but when I hit 73 my hands started shaking and my heart felt like it was going to jump out of my chest. Well...at 75 it shut off, so now I know I did very goodl or very bad. I am trying to think very good! I wanted to throw up the entire way home. I called my mom who apparently was anxiously awaiting my phone call. All in all I feel I did the best I could have done. Nothing was going to prepare me fully for that thing. I got many priority questions, which I like. I also got 5 check all that apply (which I HATE), 3 math, other various, MANY ONCOLOGY...ick! Oh well, thank god for quick results...think they'll put them up early ANother good thing...got home to a message on the answering machine from the hospital I've been applying to saying that IF (when) I pass boards they want to set up an interview with me. Pray for me!

Job Hunting
Ok heres the deal... I just graduated in Aug.& will take NCLEX 9/14/05. I have had AN interview (there are hardly ANY jobs available up here). The interview seemed to go good ( I was there for over 2 hours). I met staff on the unit, everything seemed like good signs. The unit director I interviewed with told me that waiting time to hear is usually extended if it takes a length of time for references to get back to them. Well...FINALLY after several weeks my references finally got back to HR. I had heard NOTHING for almost a month. SO I called HR. HR tells me that all of my references are in and that they had left a message for the unit director that all my references were in, but hadn't heard back from her yet. I asked if they would call me either way and she said they would. That was two weeks ago and I still haven't heard anything back yet. Can I call again? or should I assume that she doesn't want to hire me. Grr...It's just frustrating :angryfire . There have been a total of THREE jobs that I am even remotely qualified for (I have applied for all three). I know I am a good worker (and I know my boss gave a great reference), my clinical skills are good (I have 3 clinical instructors and multiple documents that would verify it). I WAS nervous for the interview, but I think I did well and answered the questions positively. ICK! Help me!! Thank You for allowing me to vent!

% on Saunders?
No I am going back and reviewing the rationals after each quiz. I don't do more than 100 questions a day (I don't have that much attention :) ) I would say that I am just tired and need to go to bed, but I don't believe that is the case as most of my reviews have been around 70%....any ideas?!?
-
% on Saunders?
ehh...I am using my Saunders CD's to review for NCLEX (Sept. 16) and I am consistently getting 70% no matter how many questions I do at a time...does this translate into anything...GAH!! I am frustrated! :uhoh21:

Help with Math for nursing
ehh...not sure exactly what kind of math is on the compass test (I didn't have to take one), however, I did find this site on a search that could prove helpful. While I was quickly looking over these the one about halfway down the page titled "Drug Dosage Calculations" which is a pdf file looked decent for nursing type questions. http://nursing.northharriscollege.com/Nursing%20Drug%20Calculation%20Links.htm Also if you need a resource for doing drug calculations a book called "Calculate with Confidence" by Deborah Gray Morris was what we used while in school and really did do a pretty good job of explaining how to figure out drug calculations. Hope this helped a bit.
