USAGPAN 2022

Published

This topic is to help those interested in applying for usagpan 2022. (Us army graduate program in anesthesia nursing). I was recently selected to attend in 2021 and I am a recruiter, so I have a unique perspective on this process and I would like to help.

I have just started the process for applying for the program and hope to be accepted and start in 2023.

I am prior service Army as a 68WM6. I currently have a 4.0 GPA and will take the GRE at the beginning of 2022. I have 5 years ICU experience in a TSICU and I have my CCRN. I enrolled in the ICCOC OChem class but was told it would not make my application competitive since it is a freshman level school. Any words of advice for which organic/biochem class to take?

FWIW, I have been accepted into the same class as MikeyD. Several of us who were accepted just took the Iowa Central Community College Intro to Organic and Biochemistry course to fulfill the application requirements and got in just fine. So if the rest of your packet is relatively strong (and your stats sound great to me), I think you should be fine. My suggestion is to focus on the GRE ?

-My CCRN certification has been expired for several years, but I currently hold the CFRN and CEN certifications. Do these two certifications carry any weight with acceptance to the program that you know of?

-AJG

I had asked a similar question during my application process, and was told by our Baylor contact that CCRN is the only extra certification they look for. Hope this helps!

Hey all,

anyone know when the Army Board meets and when we would hear back?

The board meets 15 June. Last year candidates were notified at the end of September when the Army board and Baylor due dates were 1 August. It may be sooner this year for board results but I would assume Baylor would still be around end of September/ beginning of October.

I want to personally thank you, because if not for this post, I would have missed this year's deadline. June 15 is apparently the deadline to get packets in before the board meets in July. My packet was submitted, or so I thought. My recruiter was unaware of this deadline and almost missed it! I was able to squeeze in the telephone interview with the phase II site director today to add their letter of recommendation to my packet. Fingers crossed now.

No problem, glad I could help. I just finished my interview as well. Good luck!

That's great to hear. Good luck to you as well!

I'm applying next year, but wondering why fully qualified people get rejected (USAGPAN acceptance is over 90% for qualified applicants)? I imagine some get rejected due to medical or personal history.

"Fully qualified" and "competitive" are different. They only take around 20-30 students from a pool of active duty, civilian, and VA applicants nation wide. You can be fully qualified with 1 year minimum critical care experience, 300/3.5 GRE, and 3.0 GPA. However, you may be competing with RNs with 5-10 years experience in multiple critical care settings, high GRE scores, 4.0 GPA, plus CCRN, graduate level courses, etc.

You are correct about medical/past history. You are applying to both Baylor AND the US Army. You need to be qualified as a deployable soldier as well as a trained CRNA.

This link has a list of medical conditions that are disqualifying, not official, but it gives you a good idea. Some conditions can receive waivers.

I applied last year and was approved by the Army board, but was not accepted to the school. I had a 3.8 nursing GPA, 307/4.0 GRE, but only one year experience. This year I'm applying again with my CCRN, a graduate level o-chem course, and another year of experience knowing that I still may not be accepted.

Best of luck Eric, hopefully that extra year of experience will pay dividends with your application. Hope to see you in less than a year!

Does anyone know how long after the August 1st Baylor deadline it will be until we hear about Baylor’s decision?

And is there an interview after the deadline?

Hope everyone is doing well!

Not sure on length of time before Baylor makes decision. I’m assuming few weeks.

I don’t believe there’s an interview after the deadline.

I am a FY2022 applicant. Take care!
