This topic is to help those interested in applying for usagpan 2022. (Us army graduate program in anesthesia nursing). I was recently selected to attend in 2021 and I am a recruiter, so I have a unique perspective on this process and I would like to help.

Hello MikeyD! I just finished reading through all of USAGPAN 2021 here on allnurses and thought that your insights, advice, and guidance was invaluable to that group in your unique position as an applicant and recruiter. Lo and behold, I come and find that a new thread for 2022 had been started and you’re the one who started it off for us. Thank you for that and I look forward to how this thread develops over the next year! USAGPAN is my primary choice in program and I plan to keep working towards this goal. Also, a major congratulations on your acceptance into the next cohort! Look forward to our future communications.

Right on! Best of luck in the 2022 cycle. I’m definitely looking forward to a new adventure!

Hey Mikey, I plan on applying for 2022. Im currently in the process of getting my CCRN and taking the GRE. At the time of application Ill have 18 months of CVICU experience.
I've been reading on the other forums about performance in the program. Do you know how it works with grading. In other words, someone posted that getting a C in any class pretty much gets you kicked out of the program. Is that true?
Also if that happens, what does that mean in terms of paying back time to the Army? Thanks!

That is actually true of all CRNA programs to my knowledge. The information being put out is about more than testing, you have to actually have a solid understanding of it to incorporate it into your practice.
if you fail you serve out the 5 year obligation as an ICU nurse immediately. Or ER if that is the setting you worked in before. You still have a lot of options available, flight nursing, courses, leadership roles once you have enough rank, pay increases etc.
So does this mean that if something goes wrong and a student drops out or is dismissed from the program even in the first year, then they have to serve 5 years?
If so, in those 5 years, can the student re-apply the following year?
Also, from what I understand USAGPAN has a pretty high attrition rate compared to most programs. I recently found this out and it's probably been the only discouraging factor as of right now.

Those are all questions I really wouldn’t want to speculate on. I would definitely encourage you to reach out to the program directly and inquire.
So I’ve recently thought about seeking out a recruiter and have found that the city I live in has a local U.S. Army Medical Recruiting Station. Is this an appropriate place to find and network with an AMEDD recruiter for USAGPAN? Also, seeing as the app won’t be open until next year, is it too soon or when would be an appropriate time to start the process with an AMEDD recruiter?

Yep that’s where you want to go. Now is a great time to talk to them and make sure you are on track. They might be a little slow with you right now since this is the busiest time of the year for medical recruiting, but the sooner the better!

Thank you for the heads up on that! Just out of curiosity, why is this the busiest time of year for medical recruiting?

October 1st is when all of the jobs are re-set. So we get a new list of Job/school openings that we are recruiting for. Usually oct-dec are very busy until some of the jobs start filling up and we stop taking applications for certain things.

Thank you Mikey for sharing your unique perspective!! It is really unique that you are an applicant and also a recruiter!!
I would like your insight on my situation..
Last month, October 2020, I was accepted to a CRNA school starting June 2021. I would like to apply for STRAP program + HPLP as a 66F Reserve. (I am aware of how many years I would have to serve if I take STRAP + HPLP)
I have talked to a AMEDD recruiter, but that person seemed to be not so knowledgeable about this. Therefore, I would love to hear your opinion on this!
I would really appreciate if you would explain me anything you know about this!
Thank you very much in advance!!
