USAGPAN 2022

This topic is to help those interested in applying for usagpan 2022. (Us army graduate program in anesthesia nursing). I was recently selected to attend in 2021 and I am a recruiter, so I have a unique perspective on this process and I would like to help.

Stumbled across these threads in my search for more information about the USAGPAN.  After reading through the 2020 and 2021 posts, I have to say MikeyD... you are the man.

I’m currently a 66S with the reserves, and am looking to apply in 2022 after completing OChem (most likely through ICCC Online) and the GRE.

To the best of anyone’s knowledge, outside of the CCRN, does much weight get put into other professional accomplishments?   Charge nurse, committee/project involvement, Daisy/Nightingale nominations, etc.?  I’m fairly involved at my current hospital, but if this participation doesn’t help me achieve my goal of acceptance into the program then I would rather refocus my efforts to studying.

As a reservist, I will already have completed DCC and BOLC prior to my application.  If I were to be accepted, would I start in June like it sounds like VA students do or would I just repeat?

I would focus on the ccrn, and meeting the requirements. If you have completed DCC and bolc you would be starting in June. You would not repeat those courses.

Sorry should have said I already have my CCRN.  Again I so appreciate your insight and willingness to help others trying to sift through this process!

All FYI. The army board is 13-15 July this year. Much earlier. I would start the process ASAP

The board has moved up 2 months. It is now in July so you would want to talk to a recruiter ASAP and make sure you are aligning with the application timeline.

Wow, this is a big change from the historical September boards I’ve read about in other threads! Thank you so much for the heads up on this. Any indication why the Army is moving the timeline up so drastically?

There really wasn’t enough time for everyone to prepare and for recruiting to finish all the admin stuff before students started shipping to training. This will alleviate a lot of issues and make for a less stressful process for the applicant.

Any changes to the GRE requirement? The admissions requirement says competitive score....semi vague. I realize historically they recommend a >300 to apply etc. Cheers.

It says “competitive” but they mean 300. They have the authority to flex on that if they want but last year they we’re strict about it. Basically I don’t have a concrete answer ?

haha...makes sense thanks for sharing bro...fingers crossed

First things first: Do it!! APPLY!

I already feel so confident in the decision that I made to accept my offer to this program and I'm only just getting started. Right now, us direct accession students are at DCC learning the Army ins and outs & while I'm not sure everyone would admit it right off the bat, we are having a blast! We're eatin' MREs, lodging in 5-star barracks and perfecting our recitation of the Soldier's Creed (so we don't have to keep doing pushups LOL). As a group, going through all this training together has given us the opportunity to form some amazing relationships with each other now before we even start our anesthesia courses. In a few weeks we will meet more classmates attending BOLC with us back at Fort Sam, and then our Active Duty & VA friends will come in June- and we cannot wait to get the real party started once we're all together!

The program's leadership team and classmates in cohorts above us have already extended a warm welcome to us all and I can tell that the next three years we will be in dang good hands. In short, if you desire to attend a program unlike any other, that will train you to the FULL scope of your role as an anesthesia provider & train you to perform under any circumstance with any amount of resource, I truly cannot recommend this program enough. From one stoked-to-be-on-this-journey Army soldier to a future one reading from across the screen, we can't wait to have you join the family. HOOAH! ??
