I am starting this thread as a sticky at the request of one of our members, for a place for those that wish to emigrate from the US to work as an RN.

Please feel free to post your concerns and questions about working overseas here.

I think we are saying the same thing!

Not quite. You stated get a European nurse license and what I am saying is there is no such thing as a European nursing license. Each country has their own license requirements as well as training.

Same goes for EU passport. There currently is not a EU passport but a passport issued by a country but states on it EU (For the UK the EU is smaller than the country that issued the passport) as well as country of issue

A European nursing license could also read as a nursing license from Europe...as I intended it to. However, there is a council in Europe that oversees the standards for nurses to be licensed in EU countries.

Ditto for EU passport. That reads as a passport from an EU participating country...not as a type of passport. However, as far as I am aware...passports of EU participating countries have 'European Union' stamped somewhere on the cover.

Can you give a link to the council in Europe that overseas the standards for nurses licensed in EU countires, as far as I am aware my British nursing registration only allows me to work as a nurse in the UK, if I wanted to work in Italy then I would need to register with the Federazione Nazionale Collegi IPASVI, and if in Spain with the Organización Colegial de Enfermería, and in the UK the Nursing and Midwifery council. Which is the point that I think Silverdragon is making. There is no council in Europe that overseas nurses in EU countries, each country has it's own regulatory body and each works very differently.

I'm a nursing student graduating in May and moving to Quito, Ecuador after i take the boards in the end of June. I was hoping someone might have personal experience with the city and could give me some advice regarding job search, volunteer work, the healthcare system, visas and redtape I may need to figure out. Any or all of these topics are overwhelming me a little.

My spanish language skills are passable, although I will need to brush up on medical terminology. I've completed 2 clinical rotations in cardiology, one in neurology, a pediatric medical surgical rotation, labor and delivery and psychiatric. Ideally I'd love to stick with cardiology, but really, I'm not that picky :) I just want to be begin my career and am excited to do it in Ecuador.

I'd appreciate any advice!

Hello, I am really in need of some info so if anybody can help me at all that would be great.

I have been an RN since 2007 with an associates degree. Since 2008 I have been living in France, but obviously not working since there are little to no options for foreign nurses in any country in the european union.

Now my husband who is french has a lot of mobility through his job and has the option to relocate to several different countries. I would like to know if anyone out there knows which countries could I have the most luck to find work in.

Even before leaving the USA I only worked as an RN for less than a year so I am not very experienced but still very much looking to get back into nursing in another country, I speak french. Maybe I could find opportunities in north africa ie Morocco or Tunisia or any other country that uses either french or english. Does anybody know????

I'm Canadian and am no in SA. If your looking to make about the same money you make in US forget it. You can only work in SA if you really love nurisng and dont mind the pay. You can go on the South african nursing council website (google it) or call them and ask them to send you a package on how to register, its a process. If you are a foreigner without SA citizenship you have to be approved by the foreign workforce department first and then only after you have gotten a response you can approach the SANC.

Thank you river-rain for the info, I will definitely look into that and see if South Africa could be a possible option for for me. Anybody else out there have anymore suggestions for a US nurse who is living in France and looking for any French or English speaking countries that easily accept foreign nurses??? Thanks!!!:)

I am so glad to have seen this post. My dream is to become an RN and work overseas doing charity type work. I am very interested in using my skills to help people who would not otherwise have access to health care. I know there are some volunteer organizations (such as doctors without borders) but I will be supporting myself and so need to collect some type of payment plus pension. Does anyone know if my dream can be a reality? Thanks

Look at NZ,Australia, the UK (low pay) or Canada.

I have a BSN and (very) recently passed NCLEX. I will be moving to Thailand (Chiang Mai) in less than a month. I'm teaching english for sure, but now that I have my RN, I was wondering if anyone knows what kind of positions are available. I don't have any experience to speak of, and I don't know the language. I guess I'm just wondering if my license will work in Thailand, and if so, what is nursing like in Thailand? Any thoughts, insight or suggestions are welcome! Thanks!

I will be graduating from a diploma LPN course in december here in Fl State and I was wondering if I will be able to practic in Jamaica...if not what will I have to do??

Hello,

I am finishing a BSN this month. I am interested in working in India. I keep seeing info on Indian nurses who want to work in the U.S., but nothing that works the other way.

Any ideas, suggestions, tips would be appreciated!

I am particularly interested in Chennai.

Thanks!

Jennifer
