Hey All!!!!

I know this has been mentioned before, but I also know that it is buried somewhere within all of the information on this website so I thought I would create a new thread.

This is for all people going to COT 10-06 in August.

If you are on Facebook, we have a Facebook page started that you will be able to find called "US Air Force COT 10-06" Join the group or post questions and messages on here.

Can't wait to see you all in August!!!

thanks for the "randolph" heads up. it worked for me to get through to my recruiter.

Have a question on shirts for COT, TI or blouse? I bought 2 ss and 1 ls for my service dress. Also on the list of uniforms it has 2 sets for ABU's, I bought 3 sets, as I was concerned about laundry. I heard that you can only do laundry once a week, true?

There are NO perks to the commissioning date. lol. I wasn't pleased about being front of the line. I was the group commander. That did not correlate with my plan of blending in and not being noticed. You will see. Everyone knew me, and I can't remember 289 trainees and 20 some odd flight commander's names!

Congrats on that new RN behind your name Spooky! You can get to clothing sales with your commissioning papers and ID only. Orders may not come until you are down to a couple of weeks left. Don't worry, that is normal. They know your are going, it's just paperwork. The Air Force doesn't like trees growing.... they prefer them in paper form.

Thanks Mid! So I'll be closer to the rear of the line (what line though?) being that my commissioning date will be this Thursday and I'm in the 10-06 class? (Yep I'm Clueless! Forgive me please!)

Oooh another question: I have heard about different positions that carry extra responsibilities that one is "VOLUN-TOLD" to do. Some of these require one to complete loads more work than others. What are they exactly? I've seen a list of them somewhere on this site and now I can't find it again for the life of me. What are the responsibilities of each exactly? When/Where are these assignments made? Is there a website out there with this info? Which ones do I NOT want? lol

There are lots of extra little duty jobs at COT. You WILL do something. The first day the ADO had all the captains and above fallout an form up in another spot. (I was moving quickly and some fool had a duffle bag there which I tripped on and fell over and about knocked over 3 other people with me!). From the captains and up they choose the group leadership. You really don't get to choose where you stand in this line because it is based on dates. If you aren't a captain though... you can still be in a leadership position. I highly suggest that you not hide from these. Go for one you want rather than one you get stuck with. When we chose the group officer positions, there was one girl who knew she wanted to be the social officer and raced up for it! lol.

Laundry was not really an issue. Time was. I had 3 uniforms. You will still wear the same one a couple times, just change the t-shirts and take fabreeze. I recommend 3 of the PT outfits and I liked having fitted black bike shorts under them, it helped with sweat control. Gross, but true. Invest in good sports bras... lots of them. That is what I wore most of the time even in ABU's.

oh, and there is only 1 pillow there, I was glad I brought one of mine.

Thanks for the 411 on the pillows, I was wondering about that. Guess I will either bring mine or have it shipped in the mail the first few days. What about mail call? Oh and think I will take the social officer position, I was commissioned a Capt so we shall see.

As a captain, definately expect to be in a leadership position at least at the flight level. I did some things wrong, namely I didn't take care of my own needs and relax and de-stress. Number 1 is to take care of you. But I think I learn more when I mess up, so what better place to learn than in a learning environment?! I am told that I will be going back to Maxwell for another class soon. I'm happy for whatever learning I can get. :)

For those who recently graduated from COT:

Question for you: I am heading down to the graduation for this months COT, and wasnt sure about a few things. My friend said they have a graduation on one day and then a parade on the last day, but wasnt too sure. If you could just mention how graduation and all that was for you, I would much appreciate it.

Also, any recommendations for hotels in the area, car rentals, etc? Anything would be helpful, thanks!

On that Thursday, there is an awards ceremony inside an auditorium. Our class was allowed to go see their family that evening. Then at 10am the next day was the parade (hot! wear comfy cool clothes and bring water). Then we were dismissed. We did go back to our flight rooms briefly with family to see meet each other.

I liked the Embassy Suite right downtown. It was close and easy. There are a bunch of less expensive hotels right down the road. It isn't a problem.

I would plan on getting there early Thursday morning or better Wednesday eve. Don't expect tons of time with your graduate and he/she has to spend all nights on base and check in on time.

Don't forget your shot records! I got 5 in one day. I didn't have the proof that I got my H1N1 and flu in October (thought season was over, so didn't think I needed it). I got those plus the Tdap, HepA, meningococcal. I didn't have a TB test within 6 months, so I needed 2 here at first base. I thought I was prepared!

I went and got my uniforms yesterday and have either purchased everything (clothes wise) and I have it or I have ordered everything and will have it. But, going through the list of things has made some questions that I have for previous COT goers and all around AF experts

1) Flashlight w/ cone? Umm...where do I get this or should I just wait to Alabama?

2) Rubbermaid tote? Once again....where do I get this, how big, or should I just wait?

3) Black dress socks? Do any black dress socks work or does it have to be a certain kind/style?

4) White gloves? For what? We don't need mess dress but these were under miscellaneous items.

5) Are we supposed to put our names on our green duffels? If so, does just writing our name on it work or does it have to be something less primative?

And little rant....why do boot companies insist on stopping women's sizes at 10? Some of us have bigger feet, yet guys boots don't work because they are too wide. Boo. Ha. Sorry : )
