Hey All!!!!

I know this has been mentioned before, but I also know that it is buried somewhere within all of the information on this website so I thought I would create a new thread.

This is for all people going to COT 10-06 in August.

If you are on Facebook, we have a Facebook page started that you will be able to find called "US Air Force COT 10-06" Join the group or post questions and messages on here.

Can't wait to see you all in August!!!

Sorry for the old PT standards. Realized it later

All the information is available online regarding the PT standards for the AF; http://airforce-pt.com/female.html. They are put out by gender and age, so you will have to find out where you fall. They also have a program outline to help you build up to the run but it is 8 weeks long if I am not mistaken. Your recruiter should have gone over this with you to prep you for the physical conditioning you will need.

Gerri - these are the OLD standards and do not apply as of 1 July. The correct standards are at AFPC's website:

Air Force Personnel Center - AF Fitness Program

Edit to add: made a quick correction with a correct link before I saw your own correction; please don't hate me. :)

The weight issue I know from the E side as my husband was a recruiter YRS ago. If there was a recruit close he/she would do daily weights. Also hit the gym to burn off fat. The day you ship you get weighted, I have never heard of a stop then for shipping. Cut out soda, white's (flour, sugar, salt) and up your intake of water and fresh fruits and vegs. Good Luck

As an officer you don't "ship" like you do when you're enlisted - you get there on your own, whether by plane or car. Rare is the officer recruiter who's going to bother with weighing you - you're an officer and that's considered your responsibility (although one person on this board went through that for some unknown reason).

Also - in case that does happen to someone, don't let them try to hold you to the same weight standards the basic trainees are held to - they have the toughest physical requirements in the Air Force. They don't apply to you.

If you're overweight at COT you're put on a strict calorie consumption and PT program - I know this because I saw it happen in my own class. There's no reason to arrive at COT knowing you're overweight IMHO - and if that makes me harsh, then I'm harsh. I'm not talking about a pound or even five - I'm talking about showing up knowing you're ten, fifteen over the limit (and yes, there was one person in my class who did - and by the end of the course they didn't - they'd been forced to lose it, and it looked like anything but fun).

What happens or doesn't happen at COT doesn't stay at COT - it goes into your personnel record. And I know this because my COT record is in my military record at Randolph; I retrieved an electronic copy of it.

Thanks for the info, I just thought we might have to qualify with pistols since the nurse I interviewed with specificly asked if I had any moral objections to using a firearm since I would be required to do so if I was sent to the middle east. Guess that is something that will only happen if you are in a situation where you need to carry one.

I also have the current standards for the physical fitness test from the COT website already, there wasn't any specifics about the 5K run except that there would *be* one. I mean I could do 5k easily at my own pace.

Just wondering if I should step things up to try beat a certain time.

On a side note: I wish I could go by the women's standards! Would be so easy

I get what you're saying - even if it annoyed me the first time I read it :) - so I'll be equally politically incorrect - this is the one time in my life I've anxiously awaited the arrival of my 40th birthday!!

I work at the VA too and I had a friend of mine commission me who is a retired Navy Capt. He had never done it in the 32 yrs he was in, did plenty of reenlisting but not commissioning. We did it at work with afew of my friends and husband present. So now it just waiting to go to COT. I do leave tomorrow to see my son in TX (active AF) and plan to get the bulk of uniforms and other items I will need in AL.

Smart thing with the uniforms Gerri. There is a place here at Lackland that sews everything on the same day. It is not right the alterations place right next to clothing sales, but down the street.

My date of commissioning was earlier than everyone in my area - one guy by a week. That ended up making me the front of the line and in a leadership position at COT. Remember your commissioning date... mine was tax day. lol.

does anyone know if it is possible, and how you go about doing it, to get onto an afb w/o having a military id? i am getting commissioned today and then sending back my papers to my recruiter and then he is doing what he needs to do. i woud really like to get my uniforms beforehand, but the nearest afb is scott afb and that is 10 hours away for me. i don't want to get there and then be turned away because i don't have the right stuff....so yeah...how can i get on a base?

Thanks for the 411 on the uniforms, guess I should go to Lackalnd for the important stuff. Is the tailor shop open on Sat? as that is when we are going down. I hate to say it but I do plan to go to San Marco shopping :yeah:! My closest base here is Hanscom, 2-3 hrs.

I know I will be the oldest there at COT, so I hope someone has a earlier commissioning date than me (7/2/10). Don't want the old lady in front...LOL! But in the end we are all here for the same reason, just alittle different route to get there. Mine took over 20 yrs to do because of my husbands career and family and I would not change a thing, but now its my turn .......and I can not wait.

Midinphx, are you at Lackland?

I'm at Lackland. The quick uniform service is on the training side of Lackland in the minimall. I haven't used them, so don't know the hours. Sorry.

I thought I'd be the oldest at COT at 42. I was not! I think the oldest was 54yo doctor. there were many my age, I was happily surprised to find out. There were a ton of young people going into med school. They can only go during summer so they outnumbered the active duty folks. But they are just as gung-ho as can be and really great young kids. My roommate was 23 and starts med school next week, and I couldn't have done it without her! I don't know how they made such great roommate assignments, but I don't think there were any problems with the pairings at all.

luvbug...

your commissioning papers will get you onbase. You need your id, your car registration too. They will let you get your uniforms and alterations, but not shop in BX or commissary (or if they do, it is a battle! lol).

Specializes in all.

mid..i cannot help but wanting to hear much more about your experience at cot...i am hoping that you post much more detail about your experience.
