Hey All!!!!

I know this has been mentioned before, but I also know that it is buried somewhere within all of the information on this website so I thought I would create a new thread.

This is for all people going to COT 10-06 in August.

If you are on Facebook, we have a Facebook page started that you will be able to find called "US Air Force COT 10-06" Join the group or post questions and messages on here.

Can't wait to see you all in August!!!

Was it a problem getting on base to purchase uniforms? Do you have your orders?

I am frustrated regarding the whole process. I am told orders may not arrive until two weeks prior to leaving so this will cost me $$$$ to pay movers to move and store my household items. Then I have the pleasure of arranging TMO and flying back here to have the storage items unboxed and reboxed and moved all over again. I should just break everything now to avoid the later frustrations.

No it was no problem for me. I just had my commissioning papers and it was fine. You just have to go to the Visitor Control Center, show them your papers, and they will give you a visitor pass for the day. Then when you get to the gates to enter the base you show them your pass and your ID and you are set to go to the Clothing Exchange (only).

I don't have orders yet either...I commissioned a little over 2 weeks ago so according my recruiter I should be getting them soon...we shall see.

Lvbug I do know the rubbermaid container you get there at the store, there is plenty in the specific size. Flashlight, belt and hydration equipment also there. Carolina told me to get a small luggage like lock for our secure drawer. I got a master lock at Target for four dollars, its a combo (no key to worry about) slender metal "rope" type. She also gave me great advice on watches, I wear an Omega and do not want it trashed. I picked up a Timex with a stop watch for thirty dollars. I plan to keep my good watch locked up most of the time in my secure drawer.

I got my boots and shoes when I went to see my son in TX. I have never had wide feet but according to the miliarty shoe makers I do. I did get my boots in mens size 7; Marauders non steel. I was told, true or not that this was okay. The female version were too tight and it felt as though one was smaller then the other. I got the low heels for pumps. As for nylons the uniform shop told me to just get them in the exchange. Black socks I got the regulation ones and they look awful. So I am too interested in a well made, comfortable pair.

Where did you get you duffle bag? I have several but they either have US NAvy on it or other family members names and ranks. I think the AF would not be too thrilled if a Capt showed up with a navy chiefs sea bag.

WHen do you go to COT? I am scheduled for Jan, hoping for Oct and got a offer yesterday and delcined Aug; still too much to get done. I have a family here and getting the house ready to sell ( I know it will take a very LONG time). But I am very positive about Oct as that is what I am gearing my plan on completing these chores. If it doesn't happen than I am ahead of the game, I still have a seat in Jan; win win situation.

Get the flashlight with cone there (yes you do need it). The rubbermaid is for keeping any prepackaged single food items that you take (keep down potential bug problems). Any black dress socks work. Write your name on everything. It doesnt' have to be fancy. I sewed on of my name tags on my duffle. I never wore my pumps at COT, only the low quarters. I highly suggest you wear in your boots and shoes. I thought mine were done, but still they hurt. Alot of people went around with bandaids for awhile (yes, buy bandaids). Take an alarm clock. You don't have to buy the hydration system, that gets issued to you.

If you want something to study: memorize the Air Force song, the oath of office you take, and the airman's creed (I'm sure you can find it online).

would just embroidering my name somewhere on the duffel be okay or does it have to be a name tape?

for the air force song...just the first verse of it or the WHOLE thing?

I ended up buying a pair of Converse boots from the US Patriots website.

The duffel bag I bought at the clothing exchange. I had to ask the woman working where they were to find them.

I go to COT 23 Aug....31 days away.

You can just write your name on with a sharpie marker for all they care. lol. I know you are worrying about every little detail! I did it too. Planning ahead made a huge difference and being prepared made it so much easier. Remember to Relax.

oh that makes me feel better but i know i am going to obsess over every little thing especially since i am the first person in my immediate family that has gone into the military so my family is freaking out more than i am. i do believe my mother is taking it the hardest.....i did my commissioning in my living room at home and she walked away to the other side of the house while i was saying the oath.

I bet your mom turns into your biggest supporter and sends you tons of care packages! lol.

Your mom was probably overcome. I know I was when my sons swore in and again when they graduated from BMT. And I agree with the previous post she will most likely be your biggest supporter, she is your mom and thats what we do. You have made a excellent choice for your career and you should be very proud. It has taken me over 20+ yrs to do this but I finally am going into the AF. Good luck in COT!

thanks!

i am sure that will be the case with her.

question:

will i need something to transfer info from a personal computer to a govt one? i saw on the cot website you can't use a thumb drive and need an external hard drive. i don't have one and didn't want to buy one if i wasn't going to be using it.
