call it the holiday blues or what you will... im definitely not in a good mood... so i come to this website to find some content to distract me... and lo and behold... something that does.......

to all the nurses out there (students included) who continually chastize others for being in the field for monetary gain.... get off your high horses and quit with the self-suffering martyr b*s*....

urgh!!! no one.... and i mean no one would be in this career for free... so sue me if moneys a great motivator... it may not be the biggest bucks, but it sure beats a lot of jobs out there...

hey how about you do it for free and then? yeah... i thought not..... got bills to pay huh?

anyway.... im done...

happy holidays!!! :jester:

Huh? I don't understand what your rant is about. Nurses saying that they are in this field for the money? Or nurses who are driven because they love to help people? Please excuse my confusion...maybe it's the Alzheimer's setting in.

I agree with you! I love helping people BUT I also have bills that MUST be paid! So Im in nursing for the $$$

oops... neither of the two... my rant is specifically about the individuals who judge others for being in nursing for the money...

my problem being that no one would do this for an extended period for free... so i feel its not right that when someone mentions that they are in nursing for the paycheck, they are immediately beleaguered with

' dont be in nursing unless you care about the patients... i cant believe you're doing this for the money....how can you say you are doing this for the money..." ad nauseum.....

hope that clarified my angle :)

OP, you just need a little Christmas, right this very minute... *wineand it will be all better.

I had more time helping people as a high school student working voluntarily in a nursing home.

Now I am a nurse, hoping to have the heart at the right place, but earning money providing professional care.

But if I worked only for money I would have never chosen Nursing!

AH! I feel ya. Dude, of COURSE we wouldn't be in this backbreaking profession if we didn't have compensation! Don't you find it odd that the most dangerous, most labor intensive and the most litigious jobs in America offer the lowest pay? Police officers, firefighters, teachers, nurses and nutritionists are paid such low wages...but without them, we would be lost. But seeing as that the high paying jobs require a whole lot of BS most of the time, I am just fine staying right here in Mamby Pamby land. Fa-la-la-la-la...la-la-la-LA!

BTW, clear, what exactly is that red beverage you are pouring? ;)

It ain't Kool-Aid. ;)

See to me there is a difference.

There are those who genuinely have a passion for helping people when they are at a most vulnerable point in their lives and it's also a great plus that the money goes along with it.

Then there are those who are SOLELY in it for the money. They are the ones who hate working with people, could care less what their wants and needs are and do the bare minimum requirement of their job just to collect those big bucks. Those people should NOT be nurses by any means.

Everybody, chill, chill, chill. It's not worth getting urself worked up over stuff that doesn't really matter, especially at this time of year.

well I have to say that if you are in nursing ONLY for the money....like you thought about what you wanted to do with your life and you thought "hmm well nurses make a lot of money so im gonna do that" then thats an awful reason and I dont have much respect for you really. I believe that a person needs to be genuinely interested in the career field they choose and have the personality and characteristics that come along with that job. For nursing that would be people skills, compassion, patience, etc. You have to have a desire to affect people's lives for the better. If not and you think "I am in this just for the paycheck" then I feel thats very selfish. Dont get me wrong, I enjoy the money but to me its a bonus. Would I do this job for $30,000 a year? No I wouldnt but when choosing a career I thought about what would provide for me and my family AND what would I be good at, what job would fit my personality. NOT just what would bring in a big paycheck. If I was choosing a career based on money then I could have been a lawyer, engineer, pilot. But none of those things interested me and I feel my personality does not match any of those career fields. So basically if you are in this career for the money but ALSO because you want to help people and are a caring compassionate person then thats fine.
