Greetings fellow 2018 UPenn BSN/MSN applicants! Just thought I could start a thread for the incoming applicants so we can help each other out through the application process.
Does anyone know if we need to submit separate transcripts for study abroad programs if it's already clearly stated on our official undergraduate transcript? Thanks! : )
Congrats to everyone and good luck to those waiting to hear... it's so stressful checking yr email every 2 seconds!!I'm new to this thread... midwifelife and dancingmidwife88 i will also be interviewing for the CNM program.
Excited and stressed about so many things including what do I wear...........:')
Yay! That is so exciting!
It's funny you say that actually- I got up at 1am last night to comb over pinterest posts.
I think I will just be wearing a sweater over a button-up and nice slacks and flats.
I don't want to be too uncomfortable or cold since we also may be touring the campus!
Amen to that! I toured Penn in August and met with an admissions director (not Filomena -- she was sick) and I LOVED IT. But does anyone else find that getting a second bachelor's degree is a bit redundant? Are there pros/cons in terms of that vs. a direct master's like Yale?
That is a question that has been exhaustively debated on AN. If you do a search you will find multiple threads but the basics are if you want to work before obtaining your masters most hospital settings would like you to have your BSN due to magnet status. Additionally, most states have a target to have their nurses all be trained to BSN level, this is becoming more and more of a requirement as time passes. The other part of the argument is whether you will be practicing at the bedside or as a NP and the pro and cons arguments about having experience as a RN first before becoming a APN. There are many passionate debates and I can see the points people are trying to make from both sides but won't wade into it here as it defeats the purpose of this thread. I would say Google it and read the threads about this topic on AN and draw your own conclusions.

Yeah, I was wondering the same thing- I don't think the BSN is necessary at all when it comes time to apply for jobs. I think the wonderful thing about Penn's program, though, is how flexible it is. They actually allow you to switch your specialty if you make it through your BSN and want to explore something else. Additionally, you can take a gap year (or up to five gap years) between your BSN and your MSN to practice as a BSN. So the flexible BSN option could be a major plus depending on how you look at it.

Yeah, you're totally right. The thing that sucks, though, is that since it's an undergrad program, I would have to take out all private loans to pay for it, which scares the devil out of me! We'll see, though. I just want to go somewhere that I love and that will get me to my end goal -- which Penn does. Any other updates on interviews???
Thank goodness for this site -- helps ease my state of mind! I'm Psych and haven't heard anything back either! Maybe because of their tentatively-scheduled interview date they are waiting to lock that down before sending out invitations.
Seriously! I'm losing my mind over here, but glad to know that I'm not alone! I'm hoping we hear back soon, but until then I'll continuing refreshing this site and gmail ad nauseam.
