noticed that there are old threads resurfacing on the immigration from the uk to the usa, so thought that with all the newbies on the site and us oldies who have done it all and are now settled, will start all over again. some of the information has changed so much because of the retrogression and the state of the american economy, the disasters in the areas where you might have been going, and of course the new president that they are going to have. also, theres some of us who have completed the agency thing or come on our own, and we all have different experiences. its really difficult to translate the differences between some things but will try to help, as will madwife, betty boop, silverdragon, rgn1, sue, letina etc, etc
dropped you all in here now havent i ?
i have applied for my daughter who is over 21 to come here, as the daughtr of a green card holder, we have waited for 2 years already and last year due to dh's illness tried to get her here as an emergency, we still dont know what happened to the application, and when you call them they cant really give you any answers. this year we would like to apply for our citizenship, which means that application gets stopped and we have to start the process all over again, but they tell you as the daughter of a citizen she would get a visa number staright away, but what all this means i dont know. the uscis site doesnt give you the information, but are always posting that they do,,,,,,
as far as i am aware even if a citizen if the child is over 21 then there are still a few years waiting. not what you want to hear but have seen 8-14 years banded around longer if married
thats what i thought anna, but the deal also includes if she gets preganant or married then the application is stopped as well, dont blame them for thinking this way, but as an over 21 year old, she cant put her life on hold for ever, so my thinking now is that she will never get here before she wants to settle down, and as she is in the uk, thats where she will do it. so its something that i have to accept that she is not going to be able to come and live here,
How long do you think this retrogression will take to lift? Im kinda lucky that in my training I have had hours in all of the areas..ive got another 15 months left..and after I finish, I will to get some experience. I think ill start studying the NCLEX as soon as I qualify, alongside working as a NQ nurse. Im just worried ill qualify and the wait will be something ridiculous like 10 years by then:confused:.

No one knows how long retrogression will last, already has lasted 2 years longer than the one before that but that one only affected people born in the PIC countries where this one affects everyone. The demand is higher than allocation so expect it to last longer

You may have had hours in all the areas (even I have some hours in all the areas, as we have the common foundation year), but you still may not have enough outside of the adult branch. Before you start studying for the NCLEX, finish your training and then pick a state BON to send your credential evaluation to. I'm pretty sure that it's only then that you'll know if you have enough hours to be given permission to sit the N-CLEX.
all over america in heavily populated areas, where there are many nurses and lots of hospitals there is a hiring freeze, so some hospitals over here who are sponsoring foreign nurses are included. the economy is so bad, that people are losing jobs and therefore losing their health insurance so have no money for elective surgery and no insurance to pay the hospital bill if they do get sick, people who do get the bill paid for through any program that helps with the bill, dont give the hospital as much money, and people in employment are not paying their portion of what is owed to the hospital. so we are finding that there are cutbacks in a lot of the hospitals as they are losing money, or not making what they were. we have already been cutback on staff even although we still have the patients. its not like the uk, if you work a 36 hour week they send you home, and if you have vacation time, then you use that to make your wages up, and if you have no vacation time then you just dont get paid. there are nurses being laid off as we are being told that some areas are overstaffed and they just dont want that amount of nurses on their wage bil, even if they dont work, and of course thats to do with them paying the benefits as well.
As Cariad said things are very bad over here, we are thankful of a job and working conditions are detiorating as the financial crunch is hitting us hard. No jobs have been posted at our hospital since before Xmas and I doubt they will be posting any in the near future. Of course now the nurses who relied on overtime to survive have taken second jobs, so we now have an even worse nursing shortage than before. the nurses left behind have to manage with an increase workload with no extra help. The charge nurses never take any pts but are quick to give you more and more pts, some of which are so sick they belong in the ICU.
Morale is ok at the moment but as we get more and more tired I can see people getting very low.
Hi all,
Hope you don't mind me joining this blog. I have been trying to move to Florida for 2 and half years now. My sister in law lives over there with her American husband, but she has not yet become a citizen herself. All the family want to be together in Florida hopefully.
The NMC lost my original nursing transcripts (old RGN) from 1994 and I had to have a full credentials evaluation by the CGFNS which took forever to chase up. I eventually got to sit my NCLEX last April and got my nursing licence, which I have just had to renew. I have just completed my DS-230 and ETA 9089 form and believe I will sit in the queue until retrogression will lift HA HA!
I am expecting to be waiting now for another few years but fingers crossed a miracle might just happen.
