Hello everyone,
I just received an acceptance for the RPN to BScN program at UOIT/Ontario Tech U. I'm so overjoyed that I finally got in as it took me about 3 tries to get this spot. Any alumni or anyone currently doing this program? I would love to hear your thoughts!

Hi there! Is it hard to get into an RN program from RPN? I applied to accelerated nursing programs to become an RN but I haven’t received any offers yet other than an RPN offer from humber college. Just wondering if it is doable to go from RPN to RN

I’m not sure what you mean. Are you someone with a degree already and is looking to do a 2 year accelerated nursing? Are you an RPN already?
If you put a lot of effort into it, it’s doable. My advice is to maintain a competitive average in the RPN program. Make sure you graduate with a GPA of 3.7-4.0. Do better now and try not to repeat any courses as there are some schools that don’t accept repeated courses during the bridging program.
Sorry I forgot to mention that I have completed an undergraduate degree. I am pursuing nursing now, but have not received an offer yet. Therefore I am thinking of doing the RPN route to become an RN and then NP after that.
But thank you for the information. I just wanted to get a better idea. Do you know if I can complete the RPN diploma quicker if I have a degree already if I have some credits?

Congrats on getting into UOIT. I had pretty good experience in UOIT. I believe they have a new nursing lab which is nice. Their old one was pretty good already.
About the RPN stuff, you might be able to transfer a credit or two but generally they will want you to take the core courses which are generally not offer every semester. So even if you want to fast track, you might need to wait for courses to be available. However, each school is a bit different so you might be lucky. You can try seeing what courses were available in the past semesters.

Congratulation on your acceptance!!
May I know how you got in after 3 tries. I have been put on waiting list for this fall and I'm going to be taking few. university courses to upgrade my point average and apply next year. Is that what you did?
Thank you!

Hi there - just finished the program in April 2021. I was at Oshawa's north campus. The program is flexible. I'm not sure how they do it now, but we were all automatically put into the full time bridge program. I went straight through and followed the cohort as is, but many of my classmates had jobs, kids, families, etc. If someone needed a semester off, or to take less classes per semester or whatnot, the Faculty Advisors were fantastic in helping students figure that out. Your Faculty Advisors are a very valuable source, you'll get to know them well! I felt UoIT handled this aspect of bridging very well. They are very flexible and will work with you so that you can eventually graduate. Good luck! ?

Hey, did you work throughout your time at school by any chance? Is fulltime manageable with work?

I did the full time cohort and worked only casually, but would often go long stretches without working at all. Many of my classmates did work part time, had families, etc. It's a lot for sure, but they got through it.
