UofA MEPN 2021

Published

Hi there. I am applying for the UofA MEPN 2021 program this Fall, and thought I'd open up this thread for others also applying at this time.

A little about me - I was originally going to apply for the 2020 program, but delayed it a year due to the birth of my youngest in late 2019. I have quite a bit of healthcare experience before the birth of my children, as well as volunteer experience in other areas. I haven't taken the HESI yet, but my stats are 3.5 (last 60), and 3.8 (prerequisites). I have a Bachelors degree in Biology, and am *really* hopeful to make it into this MEPN program. My goal is to be a Nurse Practitioner ? One of my aspirations is to serve impoverished communities in third world countries.

Would love to hear from others, and open up dialogue regarding questions and general advice.

Best of luck to all the 2021 candidates!

I applied for the BSN Summer start too and haven’t heard anything yet! I interviewed for the last BSN cycle (Spring start) and didn’t get in (obviously LOL) ?

@Amy HThank you for your quick response, appreciate it. May be they are processing MEPN first then get to BSN. Are you applying in Phoenix area or in Tucson ? I thought BSN have significantly more seats than MEPN and it easier to get in to, as its 3x a year.

If you don't mind asking, I am lil bit nervous now ? , (here are my stats: Pre-req GPA: close to 4, Cumm GPA: 3.52, and HESI : 90.x, past B.S.) , I learnt most of mine are above avg. but not sure now ? , what are yours (sorry to deviate a lil from MEPN - apologies mates) for Spring (last one) entry numbers ? [[Unfortunately I cant PM you]]

I’m actually open to both Phoenix or Tucson (Tucson preferred though). I just didn’t have super great grades the first time around in college, I’ve spent a couple years being an MA and retaking a bunch of classes. So my cumulative GPA is a 3.7, pre req is 3.6 and HESI is a 94. I’ve only interviewed the one time, but it was interesting with the COVID stuff happening too. Don’t worry about stats too much, experience is also important.

Thanks Amy. That helps! Was the interview was all video snippets or anything to type ?

Anyone else planning on doing the interview tomorrow when it opens up? Or waiting to prep with the system first? Im super nervous to do a recorded interview haha but I am thinking of getting it out of the way tomorrow or Friday ?

I’m so sorry I didn’t see this! Anyways, there’s one written response. But for the most part you’re just recording yourself answering a question.

@dionnalopez   I am thinking of doing it on Saturday... I am really nervous too. I have one question tho, you have to click assessment in order to start the actual interview right? I am nervous that I may click some wrong button, my interview will just start and I am in my pjs ... LOL

Haha same! But yes I believe you can practice as many times as you want and then when you are ready for the actual interview you have to click that button.

I am still going over the interview questions. for me I did not have any healthcare experiences, which made some questions a little bit difficult for me. How do you feel about these practice questions? I truly wish we could do the interview in person, I feel like I just cannot finish everything I want to say in 1 minute!

What I did was put all of the questions into a word doc and answered them and then recorded myself doing the answers to see how long they were. From what I understand, I think they said the actual questions will be a bit more complex and detailed. So im kind of worried about that. I have just been trying to answer as many of those practice questions in different ways to sort of talk about my ideas, experiences, values, etc. I also am doing this with no healthcare experience! I answered many of the questions from experiences at my job (supervisor food service) and a couple of volunteer positions.

@dionnalopez such a good idea! I used to be a teacher, but supervisor food service sounds fun!! good luck girl!

I wonder if we all get the same questions... I am planning on doing this on Saturday, but maybe I'll get too antsy and tired of practicing (aka don't want to practice and just rip the bandaid off) that I'll do it tomorrow LOL.
